Default 10 reasons for hating kendo (or other MA)
So…I was in a shop with some of my friends and we were trying some clothes….you know the usual girls shopping…and I saw a shirt that locked really nice…my favorite color, reasonable price and I tried it in order to buy. You know what I’ve noticed …it didn’t fit. Why…because my arms got a little muscles so now this kind of shirt will not fit anymore …disaster…..ok….I get home, the next day I want to dress for work…tried my favorite shirt, and…it doesn’t fit anymore either the same problem the sleeves are to tight ….gahhhh

So these are my ten reasons for hating kendo

1. I can’t wear shirts with tight sleeves anymore…so the office look just went to hell …have to find something more ….flexible
2. The smell…the other day my flat mate said that she felt a strange smell when entering my room…well…the only thing that could smell was the bogu gashhhh
3. Battle wounds an other injuries ….bruises, sore feet, blisters, collar bone…all kinds of stuff that don’t look very feminine, plus the fact that the day after the practice is impossible to wear shoes with high heels-the feet hurt to much
4. beer….I drink beer now…hmmm…this doesn’t seem a bad thing
5. expensive equipment…well
6. the obsession….”.have to get to practice…have to get to practice….agggg….need more kendoooooooooo”
7. Other people nagging …specially family….
8. caring the bogu though public transportation at rush hours gahhhhhhhh
9. the fact that I’m never good enough and each time I think I got something right one sempai or sensei will see something else (really basic) wrong
10. and last but not least….my favorite shirt doesn’t fit anymore

so...do you have 10 reasons for hating your fav MA ?

1) Because when people ask me what do I do in my spare time, if I'm truthful it's "I roll around on the ground with sweaty, muscular men and sometimes their shirts come off"
2) As you said, because I'm always carrrying some form of minor injury and I'd like to see my feet with all their skin just once more in my life

Other than that martial arts are pretty neat

Ok only a couple:
  1. I can't watch my favorite samurai films without thinking either:
    a. That's a nice hakama and gi/kimono set I wonder if they do my size?
    b. That wasn't very good technique!
    c. I want a house and garden like that one that (usually) Toshiro Mifune is visiting. (He is usually sleeping rough or in some other hovel the rest of the film!)
  2. I haven't got enough time to practice as much as I want
  3. I spend most of the rest of the week thinking/reading/posting about JSA
  4. I realise I will never "master" this, only advance a mm or so up the "grading wall" Peter West described.
  5. Fed up of correcting colleagues who call iaido "eye a doh" or "sword fighting".
  6. Saying "yes it's a fishing rod" when neighbours ask if I'm going fishing when putting my sword bag in the boot of the car.
  7. Meeting and continuing to see 1-Cut!! (A MASSIVE negative . . in more ways than one!!! )

Ok only the last one a is real negative . . .

1) Missing the only times Britain sees glorious spring/summer/early autumn days because I am in a windowless sports training or competiting.
2) Getting up earlier at weekends than I do for work to travel hours to be somewhere in time for registration.
3) Having three or four events on the same day for multiple sports/martial arts and knowing I can only get to one of them.
4) Having to choose when I get the situation above.
5) The amount of space ALL my kit takes up.
6) People taking a step away from me when they realise just how many (martial arts) weapons I own and can use properly.
7) The amount it costs.
8) Not so much now but when I was still at school, teachers taking me aside to talk about the strange looking bruises.

Ok, I can't think of anymore. But you know, none of those things would ever stop me doing martial arts.

I've split my fundoshi laughing in agreement at these!

The only thing(s) I hate is that I don't have the time or money to do all I want.

I'm with Mike completely!
I'd be happy as a pig in muck if I had unlimited funds so I wouldn't have to bother with the whole "work" thing. It cuts out way too much of my practice time!

You know number two could remedy number one if the odor is strong enough.
But we all know that women are incapable of such foulness. I have to say that My wife may be watching.

NOT a negative!

For me, let's see:

1. Injuries, My body doesn't seem to want to keep up with as much training/practice as I want to do (yes, I'm talking to you, shins)
2. Time. I've missed many a get-together or event at my house or with friends due to training. This isn't really a negative, except that I wish I had time to do both.
3. I have a tiny room, and it's being slowly taken up by Shinai and Gi/Hakama about (usually in some stage of drying or being washed), and soon-to-be bogu!

3. I spend most of the rest of the week thinking/reading/posting about JSA
I would have to agree here, I do this A LOT :P

Hmmm…would it be awkward if I would say I thought about this…casually opening the bogu bag might do the trick
But I’m a girl I can't be capable of such a devious act ...the summer is coming though

I don't hate anything about Kendo, just the stuff that prevents me from doing more of it.
