so i have been told i have shoulder impingement. been going to physical theropy for last two months and it's actually getting worse and not better.
i'm going to go see my doctor to see what other options i have. reading on the web, other option is some shot thing and last option is surgery. has anyone had surgery for this type of issue? if so how long did it take to get back to kendo? pete |

I had a torn Biceps tendon. Similar to what you have. After surgery I was back in the Dojo after three months. I still suck, but i was back in the dojo. I was also told by a couple people once you have the injury it will never be 100% where it was. I can attest to that in my case, but everyone is different.

Salute,
I too had inpingement syndrom (4 yrs ago). It was so bad that I had to quit work, and that as selfemployed plasterer. I had the shots with the best cortisone (?) on the market but that didn't help. Lucky for me, my neighbour worked for super shoulder doctor and in the end he decided that the op was the last resort. Now having said that, its a 50/50 op. Either it works or it don't. Keyhole surgery, only 3 little marks remind me of the op. Three days later and its physio theropy. At home I would pretend to plaster walls with my tools to get back into movement. Anyway, my right shoulder is not what it used to be, but as long as I use it then it seems fine. Just when I take 6 weeks or so off in the summer then I notice just how weak it can become. As far Kendo goes...I had no problems. A few months off, was a little weak at first but you will know when to stop and rest it. I had no choice really. I could not lift my right had above my right shoulder, now I can. I never thought twice about it. They only remove 1-2cm of bone. Was glad I was under after my neighbour told me what they do with your arm during surgery though. hope that helps |

got the surgery done on 19th. took the stitches out yesterday. my shoulder already feels better. however, the doc and PT guy said not to do kendo for awhile (like few months). we have hachi dan coming here in near future and that really bites. i really wanted to feel what it feels like to get a good men cut from hachi dan.
they have this thing with pad and ice box that keeps the cold water flowing over the shoulder. neatest thing i ever used. i might keep it around.. different pad for different area of the body like ankle and knee. http://www.breg.com/cold-therapy/polar-care-300.html they didn't give me any morphine.. i sort of like that stuff. oxycodine was just making me annoyed. pete |

I was also facing some problems with my shoulder but then I went to orthopedic surgeon and he suggested me some rehabilitation exercises. Now I’m absolutely fine. Shoulder rehabilitation exercises have magical results.
