Can you explain what you mean by a 'dirty' shinai?
And you could bring you men up to them if they are sensei and ask, "Somehow this stuff got on my men and I am not sure what to use or how to clean it without doing anything bad to my men... do you have any suggestions?" Phrasing like this makes it completely innocent and not confrontational. Then you just have to hope that they realize there is a problem and they can fix it without you stepping out of line. |

The wax is there to prevent splinters plus you can just whipe the smudges off, no big deal. I find it worse when people touch up their black men rim with markers and then my Shinai get black stripes on them... cause those you cannot get off unless you sand them off.
Plus there's nothing more fun than to put smudges on someone who just got a shiny new do! ![]() |

This all sounds like the Kendo equivalent of 'new car syndrome' where buyers of new cars are _soooo careful until that first ding or scratch. Well look on the bright side, you don't have to be careful anymore... you can just practice now. |
