If I tumble dry my shitagi it doesn't need much ironing but I always do just to be neat. Apparently ironing reduces the absorbency of cotton since the fibres are flattened, so perhaps it a bad idea.

What do you mean by toothbrush tapping? As in removing excess water after use? I perform Ochiburi with mine!

Uhhh, from my limited Nihongo are you referring to the undergarment some wear beneath the standard Kendo keiko gi? BTW is there a reason for the question like to find out if we do wrist-strengthening exercises via ironing (like kung-fu deshi cleaning their See-Foo's homes using circular movements to build strength, carried buckets of water etc.)? Have you a special weight-training iron to offer?

I put down no, but it's no with an asterisk. Occassionally they will end up with the front hems folded or some such and will need a going over with the iron. In the main though, I don't bother.
Also wanted to add that I've also heard it referred to as a juban, or han-juban rather than shitagi, for those that are confused.

I dont due to the fact that some of the stains defy science and no doubt could be classed as a new level of life forms....

I'm not sure which option to select. I will occasionally iron the hadajuban I sometimes use for iaido. I never iron my other shitagi.

My wife never did my ironing-that's why she now lies under my patio.

If one possesses a bit of a firm rotund abdomen, then there is the option of 'belly ironing'. While the item is still damp, straighten it out and run your palm firmly over it whilst stretching it over your en suite ironing board! The effects are passable for everyday clothing.

For details on developing a 'in-built ironing board', please PM me for diet tips.

Ok, acknowledging my mistake of being too general (shitagi merely meaning "underwear") I am of course referring to the light cotton jacket worn under the keikogi (the hadajuban as Kent correctly points).

It wouldn't do to have anything sticking up or poking out, now would it?

Bill, your perspectives are all wrong. It wasn't a jelly mould, it was a single cup from an ice tray.

I never iron anything, nor in kendo or any every day clothes.

I just put the hakama extended and with the pleates well folded under the mattress when I go to sleep (I mean between the matress and the bed, or in between the mattress layers of a box spring) and that does the job, it works for the rest of the every day wears too.

when you live alone, ironing is a waste of precious free time that you may use for important things like taking a nap...
