So, we are hosting the Midwest Championships this upcoming weekend. Luckily, I say with sarcasm, myself and one other kendo world member are the highest ranking in the dojo so we get to perform the kata with live blades for the opening. The funny thing is, I think that it was more difficult and nerve racking to practice it in front of Tagawa sensei then it will be the day of. My noto is complete crap. Just venting a bit. Cheers!

Yeah, we have a couple of club mogito we use for demos - the edges are so damaged they are more like saws than swords. Good luck with your demo! Using the mogito is not that much different from bokken, just work on the draw and return so it looks smooth and then a little adjustment on the oji-waza to account for blade width.

FWIW: The mogitoh (replica sword) set used for kendo kata is called a "Kendo Kata Yo". It is also referred to informally as "ha biki" which loosely translates to something like "the edge has been removed. The term mogitoh is not well know outside of the iaido circle, and even then not all. Most Japanese native speakers will have no clue what you mean by a mogitoh, even kendo people.
