San Fernando Valley, right?

I tried looking around for some Kendo options there yeeeaaaars ago when I still lived in Calabasas. I never got started because - at the time - the screaming scared the marbles outta me.

Right off the bat, an internet search reveals the San Fernando Valley Kendo Dojo, at the cultural center, so you might want to drop them an email or a letter or something. That is actually the one that I checked out the first time Kendo caught my eye, and I still have vivid memories of all the howling kiai that was going on. I think they would be the closest one to you but I dunno, it has been a long time since I was living la vida valley girl. My knowledge of local geography might be skewed.

Aside! Rad on starting a team at your school. I am curious though, who will you be competing against, seeing as there is no intramural league out there for high school students? Against local clubs?

There are plenty of sensei in your region. Visit

http://www.scko.org/
http://www.eanet.com/sckf/

There's also the Western Kumdo Federation but I can't find a website for them.

Not sure why you'd want to form a team only and not join a dojo. For your team to participate in most tournaments in your region, you would have to be affiliated with one of the kendo federations in your region, through a dojo in your area.

I think it's a little more complicated than that. From personal experience, it's hard enough for a university kendo club to get affiliation with the local federation, so I can't imagine it being any easier for schools.

Erhhmm, have you even started kendo yet? If they had started kendo already, there’d be no way they could conceive this plan having any merit.
