Default Coolest thing ever - hand-drawn kanji search engine
Just came across this which some of you may know already but which I had never seen before. It's a kanji search engine where you can draw the kanji in a box on screen using your mouse or trackpad and the database matches it with various kanji. Handy for those sometimes tricky kanji searches.

It recognises my 剣 anyway.

That's good to know, although I should have mentioned that it is a Japanese kanji dictionary, seeing as it is running from the WWWJDIC database. So don't get too grumpy if it doesn't have your favourite hanzi or hanja. b

You need to know how to draw it before it can be recognised. A basic knowledge of stroke order and such would also help, e.g. that 口 is drawn with three strokes and not four, etc. It recognised my 道.

The site is still awesome. If you don't know the basic way of writing kanji, use the multiradical mode. You can then click on the bits and pieces of a kanji and get reduced lists on the right hand side and then click on it when you find it.

There's a kanji dictionary/recognizer built into the Japanese font for Windows [Vista and 7, not sure for previous versions].

Recognizes stuff like hira, kana, and kanji. I was able to get 風 [Kaze] and even 程 which happens to be "Ching", my Chinese last name. ["Cheng" according to Google Translator, but I think family tradition > Google, IMO.]

*Edit*

It's called "IME Pad - Hand Writing (JA)". Should be installed along with your Japanese font. I have it activated under a really long list of other programs that I've yet to find the use for.
