I first saw that place about a year ago when we were in NY for a tournament. They had 2 guys (I assume they were guys or big girls) dressed in full "ninja outfits" from head to toe. I had to stare for a while before it came to me that they were in front of a restaurant called ninja. They have black cloth over the window and a black divider so you can't see in, looks cheesy.
Edit The food does look good though. |

They do seem to have gone all out for some of the decorations, hanging kama and the like. Still, they have an entree called "Fish and Chips", so ...
Personally, I like Manhattan's spectacularly well-hidden "Sakagura" (i.e., in the non-descript basement) for sake and light food when I'm there. They got fish, they got sake ... John 'but no chips" |

As far as I know there is something similar in Tokyo. My best friend was living in Tokyo for 3 years working as a photographer/designer, and one of his clients took him to this place, and all the staff were dressed as ninjas. There was next to no light in the place, and it was laid out to be confusing to navigate around. He was told not to leave his table without an escort, so of course he did, and couldn't find his way to the bathroom or back to his seat. I would ask if any KW members had been to it...but I'm sure none of us would set foot inside such a place...

http://soupytrumpet.com/?p=616 I'm not sure if this is still open, but I've eaten there. Sort of a famously poor name, when badly pronounced.
