At the Lightning Saga event in Japan today, Square-Enix has announced that the new game in the FFXIII saga will be called, "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII." Lightning will stay center stage in this game in what is described to be Lightning’s final battle with the game's concept based on the keywords “Lightning Returns” and “World-Driven”.


Novus Partus
The game will take place in Novus Partus, a new world introduced in this game that is comprised of four islands connected by a monorail system.


Concept of the game's world
Events of this game will take place many years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2 with the game ending in 13 days. An in-game countdown clock acts as a constant reminder of this as all actions you perform in this game will use up time from the clock. Square-Enix also mentions that the game will have a heavy focus on customization with many costumes and weapons for Lightning to be equipped with. This game is designed to give players more direct control over Lightning. Lastly, the game is slated for a 2013 release coming to both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
