50+ points in a quarter

Yeah, random stat, I know... but what can I say? I love high-scoring games of footy. Anyway, since 1898 there have been 2148 quarters where a team has scored 50+ or more.

Here's the breakdown by team;

Code:
Code
TEAM Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 TOTAL C 43 75 63 100 281 EF 47 85 81 110 323 EP 42 75 66 78 261 MJ 0 0 1 1 2 NF 0 0 1 4 5 P 31 44 54 61 190 PT 2 2 5 2 11 S 36 58 69 93 256 SD 40 53 72 77 242 SF 59 95 92 97 343 WP 35 61 55 83 234

Some more about quarter scoring records

1) Here's the 10 highest quarter scores by losing teams:

Code:
Code
Qtr YEAR RD TEAM OPP SCORE 4 1995 20 WP S 11.2 (68) 1 1941 9 SF EF 10.8 (68) 2 1981 8 EP WP 10.7 (67) 4 1984 1 C SF 10.5 (65) 4 1930 22 C EF 10.4 (64) 2 1986 1 EP SD 10.4 (64) 2 1979 8 SD EF 9.10 (64) 4 1980 13 EF P 9.10 (64) 2 1982 1 SD EF 9.10 (64) 4 1977 10 SF WP 10.3 (63) 2 1978 12 EF WP 10.3 (63)

2) On 199 occasions, a team has kicked 50+ points in a quarter and lost the game. On only two occasions has a team kicked 50+ points in a quarter twice in the same match and lost the game. Amazingly, both instances occurred within nine weeks of each other:

WAFL Scoring Trends - 1898-2011

Interesting, wasn't the 80s just a goalkicking party!? The last 40 years have shown big pattern changes havent they.

Just insane.

The interesting thing is that if you look at a similar graph from the SANFL and the VFL/AFL, the same patterns emerge.

Cheers to safooty.net for that image (http://www.safooty.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=33544).

This might be a bit tough but i wonder if theres ever been a case where heading into round 12 the team on the bottom of the ladder has its only 2 wins have come against the top two sides, in AWAY games? ....don't reckon that would be too common in the last 100 years.

Here's a few more for tonight.

Not sure how this information will translate to a graph, but here's the highest and lowest scores each season from 1898 to so far this season:

In terms of season tallies - here's two more tables. Biggest points differences in average for and average against in a home and away season.

Code:
Code
YEAR TEAM P F A % AVG FOR AVG AG PTS DIFF 1944 EP 19 2061 948 217.41% 108.47 49.89 58.58 2008 S 20 2599 1431 181.62% 129.95 71.55 58.40 1981 C 21 3352 2128 157.52% 159.62 101.33 58.29 1953 SF 21 2589 1390 186.26% 123.29 66.19 57.10 2010 C 20 2569 1441 178.28% 128.45 72.05 56.40 1952 SF 20 2423 1298 186.67% 121.15 64.90 56.25 2007 S 20 2477 1447 171.18% 123.85 72.35 51.50 2005 S 20 2256 1247 180.91% 112.80 62.35 50.45 1991 C 21 2578 1545 166.86% 122.76 73.57 49.19 1998 EF 20 2200 1229 179.01% 110.00 61.45 48.55

And the opposite of the above - the worst average points differences in a H&A season:

Code:
Code
YEAR TEAM P F A % AVG FOR AVG AG PTS DIFF 1944 SF 19 709 2533 27.99% 37.32 133.32 -96.00 1997 PT 20 1120 2868 39.05% 56.00 143.40 -87.40 2003 PT 20 1112 2717 40.93% 55.60 135.85 -80.25 2010 PT 20 1463 2963 49.38% 73.15 148.15 -75.00 1917 MJ 12 364 1243 29.28% 30.33 103.58 -73.25 1905 S 10 172 792 21.72% 17.20 79.20 -62.00 1999 PT 20 1071 2298 46.61% 53.55 114.90 -61.35 1952 SD 20 1217 2389 50.94% 60.85 119.45 -58.60 1980 S 21 1790 3015 59.37% 85.24 143.57 -58.33 1958 C 21 1423 2613 54.46% 67.76 124.43 -56.67

Not so keen on the 0.9 (9) in 2003 though!

No matter how many times I visit Joondalup, that horrible scoreline continues to haunt me.
Convenient ammunition for the West Perth folk just a year after we flogged them in the Grand Final.
