With McDougall its probably playing him in a position where he is forced to work a bit.
His biggest problem was being in a set forward position and getting personal satisfaction by kicking a couple of goals. McDougall is a player who I always believed had been coached wrong (Eagles included) and it was obvious he is a player who needed to be exposed to the real coalface of a football game. He has good height, decent agility and was always going to become a better player by meeting the demands of his physique.... He will probably learn more about footy last year and from here on, than he has in his whole career. Good on him for finding some mojo... He has been a maligned player and for good reason at times. But it has not been all his fault. Players can be coached into oblivian and lucky for him he now gets the chance to show what he can do. Some credit should go to Andrew Jarman here who I think started to get him up the ground and working. He needed to harden up a bit to and he appears to have done that. He could be one of the good news footy stories of the year if he keeps it up. Will be a good test against Spaanderman on Anzac Day, who does play it hard in the ruck at Swans. |
