Mate, it's a running tally. East Perth played last week as well as this one.

Par for the course. I haven't got a response from the club to an email i sent this morning asking them to put up an injury list and suggested posting on the website about our latest recruits Tedesco and Jacobs and a couple of photo's. Didn't even have the decency to give me a read receipt i requested. Say no more.

Only 1,459 at Lathlain. That's a weird one. I thought EF supporters might filter back this season with their side looking good for a top 3 placing but maybe not. Assuming that a lot of EF supporters live South of the river, Lathlain isn't that far to travel for them either.

I honestly reckon this boiling hot weather is the reason. I havent bothered taking my family simply because its still bloody cricket weather.... The kids will fry like lobsters and give dad the sh!ts at the same time, so I opt to leave them at home.

When it cools off more people will come out. Its an obvious reason from what I see.

And long range it looks like being in the mid 30's still by the middle of next week !! Im over it.

Anyway, well done Bensti.

Yeah the heat is taking it's toll for sure. And the attendance for the night game between Subiaco and West Perth lends weight to that argument.

One of the things that is clearly different between here and the SANFL is that we don't seem to have the same base of "hardcore" support for the local comp.

They have a large group, much larger than ours, of supporters that are only local comp supporters.

We seem to have a lot of fans who choose the AFL first and fit a WAFL game around that when possible.

I must admit, with the Dockers first game of the season on TV at 5.00pm, I chose not to go as a neutral to any of the WAFL games on Saturday knowing that I would miss the first hour of the Dockers game on TV.

It's part of the price we are paying for diving into the expanded VFL too quickly.

Also, the SANFL supporter bases were really only hit hard once. For instance, it is unlikely that "many" people support Port Power other than Port Adelaide Magpies supporters. Whereas teams like Claremont were hit twice. First when the Eagles come into being and then again when the Gerard Neesham led the Dockers into the AFL with a lot of Claremont players. I think East Fremantle were hit twice in the same way. Probably South also to an extent.

At least this year with the Gold Coast and the bye for one team, there are some fixtures when the WAFL is completely free from competition from the Dockers and Eagles.

Spot on Bensti.

And comparing the WAFL to the SANFL in term of crowds isnt exactly an indicator to anything.... The Western Australian time zone aligned with the Eastern States is the reason for the WAFL running into a continous head-wind... AFL games on Saturday nights starting at 5.40pm at Subiaco Oval are a disaster for the WAFL, always has been. The SANFL never have to deal with this type of fixturing wall because their time zone is only 1/2 hour behind the eastern states.

5.40pm AFL games in Perth on Saturday night give patrons no time to get from a suburban ground to Subiaco Oval. The option is to bypass local footy and just go to the AFL.... Simple as that.

You look at it from a million angles, the WAFL has copped it in the head, guts & nuts since 1987... And the ones who give the least amount of interest to these problems are the eagles, dockers, the AFL and the WAFL themselves.

Monday WAFL podcast from WAAPA Broadcasting ECU is back!

Round 2 is done and dusted and usual suspects Ben Roberts, Beau Pearson and Scott Ward are joined for the first time by Victorian Geoffrey Smith and Adrian Pesa to help take a look at all the action from the weekend’s matches.

West Perth edged out Subiaco in a thriller on Friday night, South Fremantle upset the fancied East Perth at Medibank Stadium, the Grand Final re-match between Claremont and Swan Districts lived up to all the hype, and Perth hosted East Fremantle at Brownes Stadium.

We also took a look at the AFL boys running around in the WAFL on the weekend and Beau dishes out the inaugural ‘Spooner of the week’ award for season 2011.

Well, gotta get that sorted at Perth mate. I heard it looked more like 2000 at lathlain.

Definately were around that listed figure at Leederville. Was good to see so many there actually. Made for a good atmosphere even though we lost.

Come to think of it, the same newspaper guessed 1,100 at the EP v SF game which turned out to be 2,057...once again miles off.
Anyone would think that certain members of the "Eagles/Dockers reserves in the WAFL Fan Club" are trying to make our comp look bad
