With the practice matches starting next weekend (Saturday Feb 26th) it would be great to get some input & details on the respective games by any posters on here. Im sure many of you will be attending if possible.
I will more than likely be attending the East Fremantle v East Perth scratchie at East Freo Oval, so I will post any details & scores on that one after the game. Hopefully DD or Bensti can give us the goss on the Subiaco v Perth game at Leederville. SFFC4ever or Slab can maybe give us the details on the South Fremantle v Swan Districts night game at Fremantle Oval. And hopefully either Robbo or T11 can update us on what happens in the Claremont v West Perth game at Tigerland. I think that is an early start game. Hope we can get some input from any of you blokes attending the games. It would be great to read whos up & running. |

With this heatwave continuing I can see some game times being changed. Forecast is for 36 deg on Saturday with most games starting at 2.15pm. Wouldnt be suprised to see some games moved to 5pm. I dunno why these things are not taken into account. Its not like we never have this heat in February/March.
Leederville has lights, so it would have been smarter to play two games there with one starting at 5pm and the other at 7.30pm.... Fremantle Oval, Joondalup or even the Showgrounds should be utilised this time of year, so the players dont bake like lobsters. I guess it comes down to the clubs wanting all their grades played together & the volenteers are difficult to spread over different days, times and venues. Probably 20 minute quarters, longer breaks and unlimited interchange players would be wise for this first weekend. The following weekend could be different if it cools off a bit. |

Well done to the players who played all 3 grades in stifling heat on the weekend. What made it so uncomfortable was the bloody humidity. This has been one of the worst summers for a while. I suppose the common sense thing to do is play these games late afternoon/early evening under lights but they are only scratch matches so they don't pull big crowds and the way electricity costs have risen the last couple of years i don't blame clubs from shying away from playing under lights.
Having said that i reckon both clubs could agree to share the cost of lighting to ease the burden of cost and avoid the hottest part of the day. Perth has a Solar Panel company sponsoring it and has I think about 15 solar panels on the dunnies on the east side of the ground. Great idea and i reckon all clubs should try and get solar panel companies to do the same. It might even act as an incentive for some clubs to build some decent toilets on the outer and cover the roof with solar panels? ![]() It's a smart move i reckon. |
