Slab on your last paragraph I think it depends on what day you read the paper or listen to the news. One day our climate is getting drier and hotter and next day it's floods. I am sure if a stadium was built on Belmont Park there would be significant work done on the foundations there as I am sure there was on the grounds of Burswood and the golf course.
If a stadium on Belmont was going to be under threat to rising seas levels then so will the race track and unit development. I'm sure they will take measures to allow for those sort of future threats if they go ahead. Regarding Burswood, i have had a closer look at that recently too. If you drive up to where the golf club is and take a look around it is a massive piece of land so stadium size would not be an issue there. My only concern with building a stadium at Burswood is it would be on the same patch of land as the Casino/Resort Hotel/Dome/Convention Centre and luxury unit development that has taken place there in the last couple of years. Imagine 60 - 80 000 trying to get in and out of there competing with Casino traffic and the rest of what's there already? And what if an AFL game clashes with a big event on at the Casino or Dome? An AFL stadium exclusively at Belmont Park I think would be brilliant and world class and be a great spectacle to drive past into the city for both us locals and visitors to Perth. |
