I agree with Smokey on the way the picks should go if this is introduced.
30+ yes & no....when I 1st read the plan didnt realise it was ALL players...agreed what smokey has suggested as believe this would be the best course of action for both Perth & Peel By "All Players" do you mean local players drafted as well as interstate players??
If so where did you read this?

Or do you mean all players from interstate??
If you do then re-read my post above.

30+ I now know its 'all interstate players' but believe that Perth & Peel will get the best with the other clubs in-line to get 'the rest' as you & smokey have suggested...so not to bad afterall I suppose

This is another step towards the local AFL teams having reserves in the Wafl, and Peel and Perth fit the bill both bottom teams are struggling basket cases.

Don't know about that Faz,i reckon there are to many hurdles to get over for that to happen.
I reckon all the wafl clubs would be against it(including perth and peel)and i just cant see the wafc approving it.
It has been mentioned as a possibility in the past and got nowhere.

As for hurdles you mean the Perth members saying no to this, well i disagree i reckon they would go with it you or i wouldn't but i reckon there would be plenty that would.

I agree with Faz in one respect here... I would put nothing past either the WCE or WAFC trying to get an AFL reserves team in the WAFL.... I know it has been put to bed several times, but the WCE will continue to push the issue until we are all dead, and the WAFC will see $$ signs at some point. Nothing would suprise me with both of these mobs. The only positive is Freo have come out and said point blank "we are happy with how it is".

The only concern is this 9 teams bullsh!t... The unbalance is a huge negative to a comp that was perfectly structured with 8 clubs originally. (21 rounds, play each other 3 times). It was perfect. Will the WAFL go back to 8 teams at some point or decide to go up to an even 10 ?

I cant see a few rookies being aligned to a few clubs being that big of a deal. They are only rookies (albeit talented footballers) but still very raw. It may only equate to 3-4 players and some of them may play reserves much like Broom and Weedon at Claremont. I know of the negatives, however it may not hurt to see how it goes for a year or two. If its not working, then change it. I think until Perth & Peel start improving to the point of playing finals, it may be seen as a risky move. Sometimes taking a risk can be a better alternative than being conservative and not really getting anywhere.

Hmm, i can really only speak from Peel's point of view here and say that we are by no means a basket case. Effectively, we've had our brightest young talents poached mainly by interstate clubs. As such we've not really had the chance to build a core team per se, that can compete with the likes of the Claremont's or Swan District's.

This is good in the fact that we're actually breeding AFL-class players down here, but it's also a curse as well.

As for the whole reserves team thing. I think thats a load of bollocks. Each club has a corresponding club in the VFL in Victoria, so for that to work, you'd have to see the abolishment of a club if it were to be replaced per se. The only way a WCE/FFC reserves team would work, is if it were WCE/FFC branded, and even then that takes the AFL listed players away from everyone.

Kris,
Every wafl club bar none lose there very best talent to the AFL in fact the 2 clubs you mention Claremont and Swans over the years have lost more players in the draft than any other wafl club.

When Peel won back to back colts flags(i think you won 2 in a row)how many were drafted from those teams?and how many went on with it at wafl level?

Bad management is one of the main reasons for both clubs non finals appearances.

And one thing that Claremont do better than all other WAFL clubs is get their ex-AFL players come back to the club, especially the young ones who have spent a couple of years in the system eg. Brabazon and Laurie.

Peel couldn't attract Riggio back this year. They did get Bennell back from Collingwood but couldn't get him to play consistent footy. Maybe the new facilities down there might entice a few back in the future?

Rofl, Riggio is rubbish, hell I went to school with him, and half the reason Peel never took him back was his attitude. It's his arrogance that let's him down.

@30plus, Oh i'm not denying that, but these kids are also being poached and playing for other clubs. I know a couple of the Peel colts boys this year that could be playing for East Freo next year. It's a real shame.

Didn't see you out there winning a premiership a couple of weeks ago? Swans seemed to be pretty happy with rubbish Riggio. Peel recruited Collard who's reknowned for his poor attitude - good call!

Never said I was a player, but as an analyst, whos been sitting up in the stands all season, i'd like to think that i've been able to see the fella play too... and his stats this season have been far from convincing too. In the major semi final, he only picked up 8 disposals, despite being on the field for the best part of 3 and a half quarters.

Yes, decisions in the past have been questionable in regards to Collard, i'm not disagreeing!
