Default Telstra cuts off MacThomas telephone, Internet.
My home land line and Internet access have been terminated by Telstra, for an unpaid bill (which was paid on 23 June).
Internet access has also been terminated by Telstra, though the Bigpond account is up to date.
This is the third time during the past month that my telephone has been disconnected, allegedly for an unpaid bill that had been paid.
This time it has been off for almost a week. I tried to talk to Telstra yesterday and was transferred to five (repeat five) different departments, then someone at the other end hung up without even speaking with me.
I am becoming suspicious.
Perchance does anyone at Felch Dem Bums work somewhere in Telstra?
Anyway, what this means to those in this forum is that if you are on my direct mailing list for episodes of Australia Calling I do not know when I will be able to send them to you again.
I did a show on the weekend and had to go to an Internet cafe with a USB stick to send it to the NSM.
When it will appear on the NSM site goodness knows. Last time it took two weeks.
I am, of course, going to change telcos so expect the current email address for Australia Calling to change soon.
I cannot, however, change telcos while Telstra's system has me flagged as a delinquent account.
Telstra has always been a ship of fools who could not organise a **** in a brothel and who did not give a damn about customer service (especially the billing department), but this latest series of problems takes Telstra's service to a new low.
As I said, I am suspicious.

I have been having similar issues with Telstra for some time. I finally get hold of what seems like a competent human who assures me the issue is resolved, I thank them and then lo and behold a few weeks later I get overdue notices for accounts that were terminated and bills for things that were paid etc etc
I think 'sole treehole' deliberately sabotaged our telstra.
I have a cousin working there at present. I'll ask her what she's seeing on the inside and get back to you.
Do you have UHF? Channel 33 is my preferred - but channel 37 works very well in the SE corner - just watch out for the rude bastard bullies on channel 37 - they're a bunch of wankers who regularly try to make out they own the channel and I sometimes engage them in debates about the legalities and moralities of who can and can't broadcast over that channel....but generally they will dissolve into a pile of refuse upon being cornered with logic and fact....
Channel 33 is regularly visited by a fellow who goes by the handle 'cougar' and who is quite a knowledgeable man who makes an effort to broadcast thought-inspiring tidbits to the masses - very worth a chat.
I think that the more we all get off the grid of 'paid comms' etc, the better.

Sadly, I do not have UHF.
I was one of the pre-legalisation 27mHz CB pirates and I have retained 27 mHz. I doubt that a UHF signal would make the journey from my place to anywhere, given that UHF is line of sight and the bunker is a long way from anywhere and surrounded by a forest.
Really and truly, I do not understand why anyone would use UHF given its extremely limited range and lack of flexibility.
I might try it one day, just to find out how the other half live.

Get yourself a web based email address, it doesn't cost anything and you can access your emails from anywhere if you don't download them to your computer. As you know I use Gmail, for the very reason that it allows me to change ISPs for the best internet rates.

That explains you missing in action. Use the repeater station on ch 7 UHF. You will get a delay but if you search for repeater stations up your way I think you will find a few. Check the channel ours is ch 3 UHF. Ch 5 is the emergency one. But I can talk on mine from over 700km from home. No privacy but good and free.

Perhaps you should change your ISP?

Now my mobile has been disconnected because of non-payment of a bill that was paid by direct debit.
Tell me that there is not something going on.

ISP change is in the works. Waiting for new broadband modem to arrive and for the new ISP to do whatever the freak it is that they do to 'enable' broadband on my landline account.
The new ISP is half the price of Big Pond, too.
Pity it is foreign owned, but Telstra has shown itself to be impossible to do business with.

I just received a disconnection notice for a phone line I asked to have cancelled at a previous address back in March. I've been receiving bills for this line despite having asked them to disconnect it and reminding them repeatedly of this since March.
Now, oh gee, its so scarey, they're going to disconnect the line I wanted disconnected! The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing at Telstra.

What can one say? Just never use Telstra (if possible). I use Optus... I also have been screwed by Telstra in the past.

...and I've been screwed around by Optus etc etc - they're all just large corporations who see us as economic units.

Optus: a joint enterprise of Singapore Telecom and the People's Liberation Army.
Good choice.

Delivery and fair dealing are also a consideration.
