Default 2012 vs. The Dream Team
I laughed watching Kobe trying to make a case yesterday.

Yeah, it was pretty ludicrous.

Now, if the current team was made up of college aged guys like Bobby Hurley and Penny Hardaway, then they'd have a shot....

They have similar marquee names, but the Dream Team had way more depth. Mullin and Laettner were the weak points of the Dream Team. And the Dream Team's frontcourt would demolish the current squad.

there are 2 guys from the current team who would make the 92 team. maybe 3. and the current team would get absolutely killed inside.

I don' think there will ever be another team as good as the Dream Team. Any team that starts with Jordan, Magic, Bird will be tough to beat. Then you throw in Malone, Stockton, Barkley, Pippen, Ewing, Robinson, Drexler, Mullin. All 11 of them Hall of Famers. Laettner probably never should have been on the team but I think they felt the need to have one college player. I don't even really know who is on the team this year but I would bet by the time they all finish their carreers there will not be 11 Hall or Famers.

I haven't given it much thought. Let's run down the roster:

Christian Laettner....Chris Paul
David Robinson.......Tyson Chandler
Patrick Ewing..........Kevin Love
Larry Bird...............Carmelo Anthony
Scottie Pippen........Andre Iguodala
Michael Jordan.......James Harden
Clyde Drexler.........Kobe Bryant
Karl Malone...........Kevin Durant
John Stockton........Deron Williams
Chris Mullin...........LeBron James
Charles Barkley......Blake Griffin
Magic Johnson.......Russell Westbrook

It isn't even close. Only Kobe, KD, Lebron and CP3 would have a chance of getting on that team. And the front court comparison isn't even close.

The current roster could definitely give them a run for their money -- but I don't think they'd win.

Still, you put Russell Westbrook, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Blake Griffin on a court together, they're going to be tough to beat just based on pure athleticism.

And shoot, I left Kevin Durant off that list.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the talent on the current team being better than the talent on a team that did, in fact, beat the Dream Team.

It could happen. Probably not a series win, but one game? Who knows.

And that's not even taking into account the guys that would've been on the team if not for injury.

Whatever site I'm looking at must not have been the final roster. I thought it looked like way too many players. And yeah, none of those guys really mattered -- except maybe Bosh.

yeah because that team was full of stiffs like penny hardaway, chris webber, bobby hurley, and grant hill. i mean honestly how many guys on the current team are even as talented as penny, hill, and webber? not many.

and there's also the fact that jordan hardly played in that game.

If his team included Howard, Wade, Bynum and Aldridge in place of Griffin, AI, Chandler and Harden, the discussion is more valid.

howard is the only one that would make a difference. wade is damaged goods and barkley and malone would kill bosh.

In that scenario, I would thinking of keeping Iguodala/Griffin and dropping Westbrook or Williams. How many PGs does the team need, especially since LeBron can also bring the ball up.

Probably Griffin, considering AI plays the same position as KD and Lebron. And frankly, I'd replace Williams or Westbrook with Rose.

it's not even whatever injury he has now. he's old. not to mention the 92 team had jordan, pippen, barkley, malone, robinson, ewing, and stockton in their prime years. what does this team have lebron, melo, and maybe paul.

what do all of these hypotheticals of alternative players have to do with the fact that Kobe's statement is still ridiculous? well, not if x, y, and z were there. not if kobe was 8 years younger, not if...

but hey maybe if they play a short scrimmage, because that's the same as a game. well, they're coming back knew it was going to happen, 'alright that's all for today' Daly.
