Default Why Kobe..why?
Does anyone know why exactly Kobe Bryant changed his number from 8 to 24?? not really a big deal I suppose (specially since im a Kings fan)...but It really doesnt make any sense to me whatsoever, people who don't even watch basketball know Kobe is number 8..why change? except of course the nba will get more sales for the new Kobe Jersey

24 was his number in highschool.
33 was the number he changed to because 33 was his fathers number
8 was the number Mike D'Antoni wore, he chose that because he really looked up to him.
24 is the number he is going to wear now because its his number.

makes perfect sense. Plus this makes him 1 up over Michael Jordan.

Jordan never wore 43, it was 45. He also wore 12 once in a game because his jersey was stolen. lol

I also heard he changed to 24 because his number was 8 and he won 3 rings so 8 x 3 = 24.

Its mostly marketing, when your on one team for your whole career, with one number the whole time, your jersey sales will eventually go down, so you got thousands of people running around with number 8 Bryant jerseys and only new comers buying new ones, it makes sense.

The fact that he actually picked 24 is because thats his old number, but the reason for the change is most likely money.

I really liked number 8 better, he revolutionized that number. you think of 23 you think jordan, 34. you think shaq, and 8, you think of KOBE!!!! Anyways, Kobe is the best in the world, and he will dominate and lead the lake show to a 82-0 record this year.... I WISH

34 i thought of barkley....32 is more of shaqs number...he had it in miami and orlando. Had to use 34 in LA because Magic had 32 retired in LA.

Here is what nba.com said...

From 8 to 24
There has been a lot of buzz going around about Kobe's switch to the number 24.

Kobe's response to questions about the switch has been that he wanted a new number for the second half of his career.

#24 was Bryant's first high school number, before he switched to #33. Kobe has said that he wanted #24 as a rookie, but it was unavailable, as was #33, retired with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
