Default Movie Review: Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein

Star Cast: Anupam Kher, Sachin Khedekar, Mrinal Kulkarni, Atul Parchure
Director: Pramod Joshi
Producer: Balasaheb Bhapkar & Shashank Bhapkar
Music Directer: Salil Kulkarni
Genre: Drama

Story:

The movie revolves around the journey of Aditya Pradhan, an IT professional (Sachin Khedekar), from his workaholic stage where he always craves for more, to a stage where he is satisfied and content. During this journey, he comes across an interesting inspirational individual, Benaam Kumar- a charismatic visually impaired (Anupam Kher), who makes him understand the importance of living life wholeheartedly.

Story Treatment:

Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein rests on the idea of a man troubled by his own ambitions and his obsession to grow in the materialistic world. The sensitivity shown between the competition and peace in today’s world, grabs the attention. The story takes support of unrealistic situations, but what touch the heart is its purity and the innocence of execution. The first half creates excitement and curiosity, but a little dragged treatment makes the effort tasteless in parts. However, the movie picks up with Anupam Kher’s impactful character in second half.

Star Cast:

Sachin Khedekar’s excellent performance holds your attention throughout. His portrayal of an ambitious employee is flawless, while his misery during his journey to attain peace is emotional and sensitive. Anupam Kher as a mysterious character adds life to the film and his subtle treatment to message behind the act is commendable. Mrinal Kulkarni and Atul Parchure play their part well.

Direction:

Director Pramod Joshi impresses you with his story telling skill and adding the right amount of suspense. However, an undefined ending leaves one with an incomplete feeling, still conveying the message effectively. Director has managed to express the significance of life, especially in a hectic schedule, which an ‘aam aadmi’ follows to reach his goals and achieve his targets.

Dialogues/cinematography/music:

Dialogues are simple yet they put across the immense reality of life and Anupam Kher’s ‘dose of gyan’ introduces you to the fact of life which one tends to conveniently ignore. Songs like Kaam Kar and Atak Gaya clearly showcase the situation of a man, who tries to juggle between the hectic competition that exists and the truth of living a life.

Ups and downs:

Excellent performance by Sachin Khedekar and Anupam Kher is one of the prime attractions and also the message to live a life is one reason to grab a ticket. No major star cast, no groovy numbers and lack of publicity will act as a hindrance for the film. If you have an intention to see a finer execution of thought that life is about living and not about existing, however, without many expectations on the story front, then Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein won’t disappoint you!
