Story:







I am Singh revolves around a Sikh family, The Singhs, who are the victims of mistaken identity in America. It's about how Ranveer Singh’s (Gulzar Inder Chahal) life takes a turn after one of his brother dies, his father gets seriously injured and his other brother goes missing. Later, begins his struggle to gain justice in US for Sikhs and eradicate racism without losing the faith in the American judicial system. In his journey, he meets people like Rizwan Haider (Rizwan Hyder), Fateh Singh (Puneet Issar), Amy Washington (Amy Rasimas) and Amelia White (Brooke Johnston) and together they fight the battle of equality and justice for everyone, in the true American spirit.

Story Treatment:





The flick seems like an example of having one's heart in the right place, but fails while delivering the same. From the beginning of this year, there has been a deluge of films which descend into the category of sheer entertainment, but I Am Singh falls into a different genre that carries a strong issue of racism and hate crime. The story had immense potential to strike a raw nerve, but the filmy touch to the screenplay and been-there-done-that kind of situations, spoil the ship for a hap'orth of tar. The research to emphasise the racism present in the world remains faithful to the subject.

Star Cast:





Gulzar Inder Chahal fails to convince with his strictly a no-no and over the board expressions. His poor acting skills take away the seriousness from many engaging moments and end up making one laugh rather than making one sit on the edge of one's seat. Rizwan Haider manages to hold your attention for a while, especially when he reveals the tragedy of his life, which is due to a mistaken identity. Tulip Joshi gets no scope. Puneet Issar plays his part well and surely gets into the skin of his character.

Direction: Director Puneet Issar definitely needs a special mention for trying his hands on an issue based story with no huge star cast, particularly after delivering an entertainer like Garv with the one of the Khans of Bollywood. The movie will gain maximum attention in North India and overseas due to its emphases on the Sikh culture. Nevertheless, there are moments in the flick that send a shiver down one's spine, but the director lacks in making his star cast perform. The director avoids forcing any romantic track in the film, as there is no chance for romance in a script like this, which is a good point.

Dialogue/cinematography/music:

Dialogues are impactful and undoubtedly successful in passing the message of peace. The music with a Punjabi flavour is strictly okay, while Daler Mehndi’s fans will get a chance to see his dance in his very own Punjabi style. Cinematography is decent.

3ups and Down:



A serious subject, but commercial treatment to it can leave a bad taste in the mouths of regular cinegoers and also for people, who crave for subject based films. The strong message of peace and fight against racism are the plus points. I Am Singh is aimed at the masses in North India and overseas, which assures certain business for the film.
