Category: Best Hindi Actor
Gone are the days when Bollywood Heroes were just chocolate boys and angry young men. Ably supported by the new age directors, all mainstream actors could get varied roles to prove their mettle. Though 2009 has been not up to the mark for Bollywood, good lead performances are quite handful to get into the polls. The nominees are, Aamir Khan (3 Idiots) - Playing a college student, who wants to do things on his own terms, Aamir excelled in his role of Rancho, getting accolades all over and was instrumental in the huge success of 3I. Abhay Deol (Dev D) - Playing essentially a beaten to death character who lost his love, Abhay Deol added a whole new meaning to the term "Unconventional Hero" Hrithik Roshan (Luck By Chance) - In an extended cameo, Hrithik managed to bring a lot of dimensions and made the character memorable. John Abraham (New York) - Surprised everyone with his forceful performance as a terrorist, John Abraham made his mark as a fine actor. Madhavan (13B, 3 Idiots) - Madhavan was incredible as a family guy living in a haunted house expressing helplessness and anger with absolute ease. He was a part of 3 Idiots too, doing his job perfectly. Shahid Kapoor (Kaminey) - Shahid was awefome in his dual roles, a stutterer and a gangster with lisp and proved he has come a long way from his Taal days. Now who is going to win the award.. |

Best Hindi Film 2009
Raju Hirani's first non-Munnabhai film, 3 Idiots managed to be the talk of the town for with its box office success and credit-sharing agreement row with notorious blocker Chetan Bhagat. Anurag Kashyap's Dev D and Gulaal won popular and critical acclaim - a first for the avant-garde (whatever that means, I have always wanted to use it in a sentence) filmmaker. Vishal Bharadhwaj blew-the-socks off yet again with Kaminey - which impressed in writing, performances and pretty much all that maketh a movie. Zoya Akthar's debut Luck by Chance had a string of impressive performances and Imtiaz Ali continued to impress with Love Aaj Kal Wanted had Salman, Wake Up Sid had Iktara and New York was shown on TV last weekend. |
