Sorry Maddy,That was the beginning of the era which we call it cinema ... today !Tis definitely not a waste of time discussing oldies, which i feel are real goldies ... that doesnt mean, am not talking about today ! There shld be a perfect mix n no comparison !

Well FYKI, cinema came from DRAMA ! Sivaji is ofcourse a drama artiste.... btw what according to you is overaction ? What he did may not be your viewpoint today, but he was admired for that on those days ....

Well Maddy, definitely not to hurt ur feelings ... ofcourse not to forget that i am too in the current generation ... but we all have evolved from time

yes bingleguy, i guess, cinema came from drama only, but cinema has evolved from that phase....drama solely depends on actors' performance but cinema is directors',music,camera angles,lights etc.....so a actor is xpected to do just his role and not overdo anything.....this is purely my perspective......i feel shivaji was not as natural as one would have liked him to be......

bingleguy, i need not define overaction for u, just watch shivaji in gauravam, thanga pathakkam, vietnam veedu, u'll come to know wat is overaction.......overdose of emotions, dialogues......just compare shivaji's natural performances in paasa malar,paalum pazhamum,bale pandiya with those movies, u'll see the difference......

bingle, one more thing, i dont mind ppl. admiring shivaji, but not by saying MGR is bad,amitabh is bad, shahrukh is bad, ajith is bad.......shivaji is great for his acting skills and not bcos amitabh/MGR are bad.....that's y i say "dont glorify 60's and 70's"......

binlge, as u rightly said we have evolved which means we shuld learn to appreciate present and stop decrying present for past......bingle, it is always the present gen respects previous gens, but these old ppl. never respect the new gen cos they think they are great....so u shuld by now guess, problem is with whom.....

Right now bollywood depends only on heroines. I feel kollywood is better than bollywood. we have got very good technicians, story, artists etc etc.

talent is here but no proper recognition. ppl gain more fame and money from there.

pls let me know what unique subjects they have handled in the recent times .

2) We are talking abt quality in the industry and not if the individuals are from south or North.

even in this genre there are movie better than this in tamil

What I said was there are a lot of unique subjects that Bollywood handles in comparison with Kollywood.

.They may or maynot be copied from Hollywood.
. I didnt say Kollywood never makes unique movie but in comparison its much lesser than Bollywood
. Lets not talk about crap, critical accliam etc, 95% of Bollywood and Kollywood products are crap.

i totally agree with sandeep's point of view that Bollywood is churning out a lot of different ideas whereas Kollywood doesent dare to think outside rich-girl-falls-in-love-with-good-natured-rowdy stories.......

great, moreover, i havent seen a decent patriotic movie like swades since Bombay in tamil......we see Vijaykanth shooting down pakistan/afghanistan all alone in the name of patriotic movies in tamil......sunny deol also does the same thing....

basically kollywood is technician-driven and bollywood is marketing-driven.........so for marketing they have to do diff stories, and present it beautifully for the ppl.......

Holly or Tolly or Kolly or Bolly ..
ideologies differ, n they have to act according to the place they are willing to run their movies....
Hollywood need not worry about our Indian problems,n tollywood need not worry about English films ....

Bolly has a lot of films which come up with historical characters like in Lagaan, Kolly(I hate to call Tamizh film industry like this ) has also portrayed many idols, but somehow they were forced to restrict to south indian heroes .... like Kappalotiya Thamizhan, Bharathiyaar etc...

whereas Mangal Pandey or Bhuvan, they talk Hindi, n u cant say that they are more famous than our south indian characters .... they are known all over coz hindi is our national lang, n almost there are ppl in all the states, who talk n understand hindi !
