Mani Ratnam to reintroduce Parthiban's daughter
The guessing games for the female lead in Mani Ratnam's next seems to have not come to an end, as the filmmaker is yet to find a new face for his forthcoming multilingual movie. After unsuccessful attempts to introduce Akshara Hassan (Kamal Hassan's daughter) and Tulasi (Radha's daughter), the director is now thinking to rope in Parthiban's daughter Keerthana. Sources say that Mani Ratnam has short-listed a few names and Keethana's also features in that list. The filmmaker is yet to approach her but believes that she can fit the bill. Though the actors daughter is not popular, she has become a familiar face as she has been often spotted at many cinema related functions like audio release, music launch and première shows. It is noted that the actress has worked before in the filmmaker's earlier film Kannathil Muthamittal as a child artist, which bagged her National Award. However, on Akshara Hassan and Tulasi's decisions to opt out of the film, sources claim that the former is currently concentrating on her filmmaking career and in the latter's case, her mother Radha is keen on stabilising her elder daughter Karthika's career. Meanwhile, Karthik’s son Gautham, who is being launched by Mani Ratnam with this film, has started working on the project. The upcoming actor is visiting Chennai frequently for screen tests and preparing for his role with a lots of hope. |

Mani Ratnam, after hiatus post 'Raavanan', is all set to start his next film, which is expected to be the launch pad of veteran actor Karthik's son Gautham. "But a heroine has not been finalized yet," sources say.
"Gautham has given a screen test conducted by Mani and the director was thoroughly satisfied with the looks and skills of the aspiring actor. The film will be a love story set in a different backdrop," sources in the know say. Said to be based on a one-liner narrated to Mani Ratnam by popular writer Jeyamohan, when they were planning to film Kalki's novel Ponniyin Selvan sometime back, the yet-to-be-titled project would have music by AR Rahman. If one has to go by what tinsel town birdies say, Mani Ratnam is considering a few names, including Kamal Haasan's younger daughter Akshara, R Parthipan's daughter Keerthana and Radha's younger daughter Thulasi, to cast as the leading lady. |

Arjun is a villain in Mani Ratnam’s flick
Arjun is often referred to as the action king, ever since he started his film career at the age of 19. Today he’s still going strong as a hero. True to his title of action king, the actor has taken a daring step and agreed to play a compelling antagonist in maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s next, which has the working title, Pookadai. Sources tell DC that unlike Arjun’s role in the recent Ajith starrer Mankatha where the grey shades of his character are revealed only towards the climax, here in Mani’s flick he has a powerful negative role with an all-new, surprising look. According to an insider, there are only five major characters in the film. The movie stars Gautham, son of veteran actor Karthik as the male lead, while his female costar hasn’t been finalised yet. Rajeev Menon will be behind the camera with Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman scoring the music. The movie is expected to be a romantic story set against the backdrop of Rameswaram fishermen. http://www.deccanchronicle.com/chann...%99s-flick-163 |
