Vikraman? The only full movie I watched was Puthiya Mannargal. What a mess...a black mark in ARR's resume, though the songs were good. Athai pesaama V. Sekhar-kku donate pannirukkalaam.

I've glimpses and clips...all I can say is SA Rajkumar's background score is a powerful repellant.
then u r not supposed to discuss abt Vikraman

Frankly speaking Vikraman gave new life for few heroes in Tamizh film industry
1. Pudhuvasandham for black beauty Murali :P

2 PoovE unakkaaga is the 1st blockbuster for Vijay

3. Suryavamsam for Sarathkumar

4. Unnidaththil ennai koduththEn for Karthik

5. VaanaththaipOla for Captain

if u have a glance on pre-release movies of respective heroes, u will understand my point :P

if u have a glance on pre-release movies of respective heroes, u will understand my point :P Too lazy to check. Just relying on my memory, having lived through that painful decade. Not sure about Vijay. But Murali had a boost in his career through Idhayam, I believe. Sarath Kumar was riding high in the wave of post-Nattamai glory when he got roped in Suryavamsam (I’ve seen this one). Captain had always had up and down market, and so happens and in this one he just dropped by in the sappy melodrama house, after his busy schedule of beating bad guys up. Not sure about Karthik though, but I think he was gloating in the comedic success with some Sunder C films, (and with generous help from Gounder).

Maybe I am wrong

Groucho, Naattaamai got released in 1994 and was a blockbuster. But SuryaVamsam got released in 1997. Inbetween he had so many flops few among them were Janaki Raman, Maha Prabhu ,
Nethaji , Coolee ( another dud from P VASU I guess ), Namma Annachi and few more

Okay, thanks for the info Sarna. I believe for Coolie, P. Vasu had Rajini in mind. Gosh! Thank god it didn't happen. P. Vasu should take the mantle of one of the worst directors in the history of TFI. Many knows this, athukkunu mandaiyai udaikkathingga...take it easy.

Good.. u guys started dicussing positives of Captain

Kannupada pogudhayya - had a good & profitable run

But VP & Vallarasu were 100 day movies even in major cities

& u all shud note that Vallarasu released & was in position to compete (in cities) with Maniratnam's Alaipayudhe with new choco boy Maddy

Still Captain is there & he has seen Mohan, Karthik, Aravindswamy, Appas, Maddy, Vinay etc.

Let us wait for another hat-trick
1. Arasangam
2. Engal Aasan
3. Mariyadhai / Virudhagiri

For your sake, HR, I hope they do well.

Interesting to note that Kannu Padapoguthaiyaa and Vanattai Poola are songs from Chinna Kaunder. If Captain is superstitious, he should start titling his films Muthu Mani Maalai, or Koondukulla Unna Vacchu. Padam picchikittu oodum.

Hats off to number one online fan of Captain.

Grou.. I recommend u to see:

1) CG - as you won't find any extra build up scenes, unwanted punch dialogues & 2nd half would show an emotional Captain & u won't feel the film is boring as u have our beloved GM - Senthil

2) If u come across the film THAMIZCHELVAN .... do watch it post ur comments .. that was a good film (for VK) directed by Barathiraja & there is enough humour from Manivannan to keep us interested.

I know this film. He plays a collector or something right? Yeah, I recall liking it. Like Chatriyan. A very sober performance.

I had so much time in hand, I was thinking of two things to do, either compile the votes here or watch paint dry. Since no painting has been done around here, I opted for the former

Here's the respective films and number of votes so far. HR, unnga avataar mathiri romba yosichi titles-a trickle pannureengga. Tilak, you said most of Nammavar films, but didn't list them. But don't worry, Nammavar has the hottest seat so far.
