Will Nootrenbadhu set a new trend?
Tamil cinema has explored villages to the hilt in the past few years, with violence, unkempt looks and the use of the aruval being showcased by filmmakers. But, there have hardly been any city-based movies that's hit screens. And, that's why the youthful, uniquely-titled Nootrenbadhu (180) promises to be a whiff of fresh air. The film's visuals, shot in the United States, Malaysia, Chennai and Hyderabad, have been lauded by many, thanks to the director's vision executed by acclaimed-cinematographer Balasubramanien. A lot has been said about Nootrenbadhu, ad guru Jayendra's directorial debut starring Siddharth, who is making a comeback to Tamil cinema after seven years, Nithya Menen and Priya Anand. The film, produced by Sathyam Cinemas and Aghal Films, promises to be a love story with a difference. There has been a lot of speculation about the story and the meaning behind the title. While not much has been revealed about it, one can certainly say that Nootrenbadhu is a film that will set a new trend for filmmakers in Tamil cinema. It is a sophisticated film that brings out the true essence of its main characters set against an urban backdrop. But doesn't it concern the director that a film so different from the current trend may not be accepted by the public? This is a film for an universal audience. With the latest trends in technology and tools like social media, there is no real segregation in the audience as SEC A, B or C. They are all beginning to merge and people are beginning to have a more universal outlook on things. This is the appeal of Nootrenbadhu, says a confident Jayendra, who has shot the entire film on the Red digital camera with the exception of the Rules Kidayadhu... song that was shot with the Phantom Flex camera to capture the magic of each moment in ultraslow motion. It is a beautiful film that requires a certain level of sophistication from the audience that watches it. I think the Tamil audience definitely has that and will be able to appreciate it, says an eager and hopeful Siddharth. Nootrenbadhu will hit screens on June 25.
