For starters, several films of Rajini and Kamal.

As some of you know, guru sishyan is right on top for me! Rajini is in great form here. Also, rAjAdhi rAja, mannan, aNNAmalai, uzhaippALi and so on. Most of the late 80s-early 90s Rajini films are truly addictive in this sense. Even the fairly turgid melodramas like dharmaththin thalaivan, dharmadhurai do the trick for yours truly.

Yeah, I also thought of nAm iruvar namakkiruvar! You're right on the money. Prabhu Deva is a good candidate here.

Bhagyaraj's 90s films. Hopelessly anachronistic, but fun nevertheless.

I like Bagyaraj and FravudevA films.
Hardly feel embarassed about them.

Visu is ..predictable, regressive, badly made stagey - ellAm solluvEn aanA ukkAndhu pArppEn. aboorva sagOdarigaL. Anyone?

Bhagyaraj's 90s films.
Same same. RR, agree on Vikram.

PR, GEn-Y might have reasons to sneer at Bagyaraj though. As for Visu, I am with you. Pattukottai Periyappa anyone :P

Bhagyaraj - Rudra
PD - Kaadhalan. Apart from the songs/visuals, I like the film itself. Can watch any number of times.

P_R,
But 90s Bhagyaraj became very different from 80s, right? In one sense, he was making the same kind of films, but I think he also got stuck in a time warp and didn't adapt to the new status quo form, because of which his films were generally immersed in plot mechanics, and often very stagey (think ammA vandhAchchu and such).
Yes I agree.
I saw the 90s only now

Perfect description of the problems in his 90s films. Time warp dhaan.
