It was an appealing movie for me though I related it to English Adventure movies like 'Rambo' Etc. I had always maintained that SPJananathan to be a fake after reading his interview on going to sue SLB for Copying his movie 'Iyarkkai' into 'Saawariya', Since both the movies were based upon the storyline Of Dostoevsky's 'White Nights'. His 'E' was Ok. When my friends insisted to watch the movie I was reluctant Maintaining that 'SPJ' was a fake. But I was stunned at the craft of filmmaking in 'Peraanmai'. It is a neat story with a linear plot aided with good amount of technical expertise. After watching the movie I confessed to the friends that I take back my words and this is his best movie till date with an intriguing and engaging plot.
Oh the Age of Information! & Wikipedia Some of the comments in the page say that the movie starts of with the title as a Tribute to 'The Dawns Here are Quite' by 'Boris Vasilyev'. Now if someone else makes the movie in Hindi he is going to be sued by SPJ for Copying |

This is an interesting remark (+ve to the movie):

I am not a novel reader.. but is this true abt Sujatha ? While it's a fact that he probably read more than many of us, IMSO, he got more inspired by personal observations of his own "at-that-point-of-time" environments than writings of others. It's possible that he got some ideas for his stories but most people appreciate Sujatha for the 'nadai' than the story itself. That was his USP and it was more evident in his non-fictional works that were immensely enjoyable. However, his contribution to "scientific things in movies" is no great shakes (vikram the most hyped pathetic example and there are not many good examples) As for Madhan, well, he was a great / hilarious cartoonist but a pathetic writer. His Q & A in vikatan (and may be some articles) are what this blog probably refers to and those are pathetic as well. |

Sujatha as a writer and a technical contributor to tamil cinema are ok as said by above. but his writings about science, Computers, Ean, Etharku, eppadi series are surely a gem of writing. ppl now has access to everything via internet. there are encyclopedias, videos, pictures, medias, softwares, updates, public opinion, just pure texts, predictions and much more available on internet. but most of his science writings were in the period of no internet. that itself is enuf to keep him on too high. i have most of his science writups collection.
i read only his short stories and not a serious sujatha reader but i experienced his 'nadai' in his science q&a itself.

If someone reads English crime novels even by not-so-highly-rated writers (i.e. those that I've read like Sidney Sheldon, J H Chase etc), Sujatha's "crime novels" won't be all that impressive for the story itself. OTOH, the nadai is phenomenal (I'm reminded of so many Ganesh-Vasanth conversations).
However, whenever he stepped out of crime (i.e. in writing stories or non-fictions), he was hitting sixers for every ball, IMO |

But as far as peranmai is concerned, the writers out there are going to find ways to accuse any movies in the coming future. Looks like only Radhamohan will be the only director who would be "writers' hero" , provided Sasikumar doesnt use illwords against the media in the coming weeks. |

adhu ennanu theriyala, Janagaraj irundhaalae screenplay weak-aa iruku. Also, what way he is respo if a movie has weak screenplay? After all, he was a comedian / support actor. Back to Sujatha - even before vikram, there were supposedly "science based" stories of similar immaturity (even USV), so it was definitely not first of its kind. Just that the expectations were high because Sujatha was considered icon for hi-tech in TN circles. Even if we agree that it was first attempt and hence poor, he had another 20+ years to prove his "tech-in-movie-fiction" stuff - and he was involved with many big-budgt producers. Till date, we haven't seen any. (I'm not very sure about this pErANmai, will reserve the comments for now.) Also, will have to wait and see endhiran - however, can't either credit or blame Sujatha, because he died much prior to the execution of the project. |

MGR tried a science fiction movie back in 50s or 60s.....I forgot the movie name.... |
