What Trisha could not, Anushka does!
March 23, 2009 Films dubbed from Telugu to Tamil have been doing well in the past, but during the last decade or so, no Telugu movie, in its dubbed version, could rake up the collections at the box office. Even Telugu films in which Trisha stars were failures; for example, Nandu and Kumaran, both dubbed Tamil versions. The glory of the past has now returned with Arundhathee. The film, which has Anushka in the title role, has been released in all the big screens across Tamil Nadu and the industry sources say that it is garnering the collections like the good old days. Arundhathee, incidentally, is a supernatural thriller set in the rural background. |

I see this dubbed movie has topped the chennai box office in quite a few sites...
I watched this movie running houseful in multiplexes in chennai last weekend.. it did seem like an okay movie, and it has been too long since a dubbed movie has done so well - that too with such a big opening in chennai.. i felt that this movie deserves a thread in tamil films section too - for the quality of dubbing, promotions, anuksha and the revenue its been collecting |

I'm surprised this movie could get so many good reviews ( I have not watched the movie, but from the trailer I can see in the original movie they had spent quite a lot, but storywise (from trailer) it didn't look that appealing) also looked similar to Chandramukhi |

ENTERTAINMENT: Of heroines and horror
ARUNDATHI (Tamil) Directed by Kodi Ramakrishna Starring Anushka, Sonu Sood,Sayaji Shinde, Deepak, Manorama I WOULDN’T be surprised if you’ve never heard of this movie. A Telugu film dubbed into Tamil after doing well at the box-office, it opened two months ago in Andhra Pradesh, India. This 13-crore rupee (RM9 million) movie is expected to be record-breaking for Telugu movies. The Tamil version is also expected to fare well. The film took 2½ years to complete because of the heavy reliance on computerised visual effects. Movies in Telugu, Kannadam or Hindi are only dubbed into Tamil if they have well-known actors or actresses or boast hit songs by someone such as A.R. Rahman. However, Arundathi bucks this trend as the lead actress Anushka (she did only one movie in Tamil with Madhavan in Rendu years ago) and actor (Deepak) are unknowns. The only familiar faces to Tamil movie-goers are comedienne-turned-character actress Manorama and Sayaji Shinde (who came into prominence as a famous poet in Bharathi). Arundathi is a woman-centric movie and thus the perfect vehicle for Anushka to become well-known to Tamil audiences (acting alongside young superstar Vijay in the upcoming Vettaikaaran is also a boon to her). Anushka plays double roles in Arundathi. The story revolves around reincarnation, magicians and revenge. Veteran director Kodi Ramakrishna, known for his movies about the wrath of goddesses such as Amman, uses plenty of special effects, a solid background score and deft editing to spin an entertaining story. He wastes no time in drawing the viewer into his story. A village has a sinister-looking abandoned palace. When Arundathi (Anushka) arrives at the village to get married, she is immediately drawn to the palace by evil forces. That’s when the family seeks the aid of a healer (Shaji Shinde) to exorcise her. Arundathi is pursued by a powerful and evil Agora sanyasi priest (Sonu Sood), who is seeking vengeance. Pulsating music as well as the songs help move the story forward briskly. Anushka is pretty and dresses in figure-revealing clothes. The roles played by Sonu and Sayaji are also memorable. The movie will remind you of Hollywood productions where evil has the upper hand but is defeated by good in the end. The special effects are top-notch, with some Hollywood studios already approaching Indian visual effects companies for collaborations. A must-see movie for women, depicting as it does their heroism. Fans of horror and the supernatural will also like it. http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/N...le/indexF_html |

I am great fan of Sivaji Ganesan and to some extent I like MGR. I stopped seeing tamil movies long back. when I went to Tumkur on official, after so many years, I have seen this movie in telugu there. I was so impressed and again saw this in Tumkur only 2nd time. In B'lore, I saw this movie 3 times. In DVD twice I saw.
In B'lore, this movie is still running packed house heading for 100 days. Following are minus points, that's itself plus point for this movie. 1) No Hero 2) No popular heroine 3) No Comedian and unnecessary comedy scences 4) No Unncessary foreign locations 5) no duets. 6) No great actors Plus points 1) Anushka 2) Anushka 3) Best Screenplay, no deviation from the story. 4) Photography 5) Best Graphics 6) Best editing 7) Best re-recording and so on In B'lore no telugu films run like this movie in recent times. I would like to see Tamil version . Planning to vist Chennai by this weekend. |
