we should live like those birds flying in the sky
we should live like these waves dancing by the shore
united in the sky, united in the shore
we should sing in unison asking for our rights

the wind does not ignore us saying we are slaves
neither does the seawater cause blisters for we are slaves
time does not go by, passing people like us
love, devotion, motherhood all have not abandoned us
united in the sky, united in the shore
we should sing in unison for our rights

we were not born without a cradling mother
neither are we speaking without a common language
we cannot live without the feeling of hunger
and when we leave, we do not just go astray
united in the sky, united in the shore
we should sing in unison for our rights

for millons to live together, we need freedom
for the country to prosper like a temple, we need freedom
to sing and dance without fear, we need freedom
wherever there is slavery, there need to be freedom
united in the sky, united in the shore
we should sing in unison for our rights

Default Kannadasan's Song Line in English

I need a motivating, uplifting old Tamil song line preferably of Kannadasan..but Vaali ok too, but this is important...translated in English.

I need this to post in my work area in big print.

For example...the whole songs "Dharumam Thalai kaakkum" and "Adho Andha Paravai Pola..." have a lot of message (கருத்துக்கள்) in them.

Could someone please suggest a nice line translated in good English from these songs or any other old Tamil songs?

thanks vasi & joe, perumai ellaam kannadhaasanukkE!

know thyself ... if you realise yourself
you can survive the world
whether you rise high or fall deep
you can live with your head held high

people who place grace above all
aren't they likened to the gracious deer?
those who realise themselves and show the world
don't they get recognised as a worthy leader?

people who choose to live the righteous way
can't they be considered godly in their own way?
knowing the needs of the needy and being generous in deed
doesn't that make one a child of the almighty?

when you walk among the famed and mighty
you deseve to be honoured rightly
being an untarnished gem that you are
all should shower praises upon you

p/s: can't think of the right word for maanam (prestige is gauravam)

When we stop labouring under the delusion of our cosmic self-importance, we are free of hindrance, fear, worry and attachment. We are liberated!!!
