This movie is recommended by Rajini to Danush right? Then It might do quite well as Rajini rarely makes a bad choice But is i really a dada movie? From the movie stills u can't really say so

Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram

Cast
Dhanush, Archana, Meera Jasmine, Nassar, Livingston, Riyaz Khan
By Moviebuzz

Why did Rajnikanth chose this Kannada film as remake for his son-in-law? Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram is a steamy sob story harping on mother-son sentiments’ reminding you of 60’s tearjerker’s laced with lot of violence.

And Rajnikanth’s favourite director Suresh Krishna’s presentation and direction is old fashioned, to put it mildly. He has tried to be faithful to the original film Jogi, but the script lets him down and Dhanush as an action hero is a strict-NO, NO! The mother-son sentiment on which the film is based becomes boring and irritating after a point especially when they start dancing at regular intervals.

The story is about Azhagu Sundaram (Dhanush) a village bumpkin who comes to Chennai city from Tirunelveli to earn money to buy gold bangles for his mother! He gets entangled in the big bad world of dons and goondas and is unable to get back home too see his beloved mom. On the other hand, Meenakshi (Archana) the loving mother lands up in Chennai in search of her son without even knowing his address or whereabouts (this happened only in the 60’s or 70’s, films when lost and found formula used to work) Meenakshi bumps into Shwetha (Meera Jasmine) a journalism student who takes pity on the old lady, takes her home and promises to help her find her son.

Azhagu is now known as Parattai, in Chennai and is taken under the wings of Bhai (Nassar) a tea shop owner. Parattai is forced to take the aruvaal as gang wars erupts and single handedly he wipes out Deva, Kesavan and Suri (Aditya, `Kathal` Dandapani, Aryan) all dreaded criminals in the city. On parallel lines he never sees his mother and finally accompanies her dead body to the crematorium thinking that it is an orphan’s corpse! He dances with others, offers flowers and finally after her body is charred, he realizes that it was his dear mother!!

Oh God, do you want to hear more about this film which is totally going bonkers? A piece of advice for Dhanush- in future chose your own scripts and play to your strengths. Why does Meera Jasmine a fine actress do such inane roles in which she tends to over-act? Guru Kiran’s music fails to create any impact and duets come at regular intervals though there is no love established between the lead pair. Archana is the only saving grace though the script lets her down badly.

Verdict- Disappointing

Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram - Glorifying mother-son bondage
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, April 26, 2007]

Expectations were high on Dhanush after a grand success in his last release Thiruvilayadal Arambham. The actor has tried to live up to all the hype in Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram. He emotes, flexes his muscles and romances with zeal. Unfortunately the weak link is the storyline. It is an often-repeated and beaten to pulp story in Tamil cinema.

A remake of the blockbuster Kannada movie Jogi, the movie directed by Suresh Krissna dwells on two tracks - the cruelty of underworld and the mother-son relationship.

Azhagu Sundaram (Dhanush) is a young village lad who is the only son of his parents. His mother (Archana) dotes on him. Azhagu's father dies of some disease and he moves to Chennai in search of a job.

Sequence of events leads to Azhagu Sundaram being re-christened as Parrattai and is forced to wield the knife. From a innocent youth from a rural area, he goes on to become a gangster. As ever, he is the don with the heart of gold, who commands respect from people around him.

Meanwhile Parattai's mother leaves her village in search of her son and comes to the city. Are they destined to meet each other? The search, the anticipation and the hope of the mother and son to find each other in the crowded city form the rest of the story.

Dhanush's performance deserves a mention. As Azhagu Sundaram and Parrattai, he is compelling and is full of conviction. His sincerity stands out, especially in the weak script. His character has shades of the lead role enacted by him in Pudhupettai. Giving him good company is Meera Jasmine. Bubbly and enthusiastic, Meera leaves her charm on screen.

However stealing the entire show is former National award winning actress Archana. Playing Dhanush's mother, she has given the right emotions and makes the movie work. Anger, love, affection, desperation and dejection, are all portrayed well by her. Santhanam as Dhanush's friend does evoke laughter.

Suresh Krissna, who had worked with biggies like Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan has in him the right experience to come up with a passable entertainer. But here is hamstrung by a disjointed script and a predictable plot.

It's opposition (Chennai) is getting positive feedback. But it fell today because of SriLanka vs. Australia final.

For sure this movie will flop. The movie just had a average outing in Telugu (name of fil is 'Jogi' with prbas in the lead!)

For Dhanush its a no go.....this movie will sink without trace....Dhanush in Dada character is laughable

Wonder why VJ didn't jump into this remake
Ur prophecy has come true i guess! The movie is touted to be a flop!

Ur prophecy has come true i guess! The movie is touted to be a flop! Its not prophecy.....its just a guess work based on story, character and how the lead actor would fit to it. If Rajni jhad acted in it its a different story altogether coz he will suit role a dada with comfortable ease. Evn Ajith would have suited well but noone else would.

My predictions for Ajith's forthcoming releases....Kreedom would be an average Hit, but Billa for sure is a superhit, you can have it in writing anywhere. Ajith's career will shoot out of the roof with that movie.

have watched PEAS y'day
1st half - semma boringu .... him missing his mum and his mum missing him .. he is beating up so many gundans.. then that joker comes for only 1 scene

2nd half - he becomes a gangster for his mother , he still doesnt get to see his mum

too much mother sentiments involved

for meera jasmin to let dnush's mother in and looking after is unthinkable !!!

there is no love between meera and dnaush, yet there are songs

rating 4/10 !!!

Again, Dhanush doesn't need his father-in-law to choose his assignments. He chose to do TA and look at that result. Seems that his brother is getting better success than him.

Rajni should feel guilty now. He destroyed his "revived" career.
