Default One moment meditation
Thought this was neat -- and practical for beginners or those without a lot of time for meditation.

Have you had any experience yourself with meditating for short segments of time, or amid distractions and attention-consuming activities (taking care of small children, going to work, etc)?

Good issue...

Thanks Lazy.

I have to confess that I have give up meditating in the bench preferring the chair -they are available everywhere- or now experimenting with walking doing anapanasati as suggested by Element in our meditation forum.

What has occurred is that "moment meditation" started to happen after doing for some time, fixed schedule meditation. It can be good to know from those that have started meditation doing "moment meditation" directly.

I've found that if I notice my mind is scurrying around in circles, focusing with breathing and taking 2 or 3 gentle, slower, breaths helps me to be fully aware with the present moment again. It can be done while standing or walking, as well as sitting - and there's no need to close my eyes or start thinking of it as separate ''meditating.''

It probably contravenes some H & S risk policy but I've managed short bursts when using a variety of ride-on and pedestrian mowers and strimmers at work. Weeding and planting out beds and borders is a brilliant time to do it.

I've found this video helpful with my sitting meditation as before I'd watched it I thought anything less than 10mins was a waste of time but I was far too distracted for 10mins. But starting with a min then two and adding when I'm ready, combined with a meditation timer app on my phone to stop me checking the time ever second has really helped.

In my experience, looking back I can see how focusing on aspects about " the time " spent, needed etc. falls away after awhile, so beginning in this way could be beneficial - it is not how I did it.
