In case anyone isn't familiar with Dr Seuss's Sleep Book:
At the fork of a road In the Valve of Va-vode Five foot-weary salesmen have laid down their load All day they've raced round in the heat, at top speeds, Unsuccessfully trying to sell Zizzer-Zoof Seeds Which nobody wants because nobody needs. Not the usual type of quotation, I know. However, this expresses my feelings just perfectly. As part of my attempts to practice Right Speech, I've realised that my current approach to communication reminds me of the salesmen rushing around trying to sell people things they don't want. I bombard my listener with words, flit off on tangents and talk for the sake of using my voice. It's always meant in a nice way, and as part of accepting myself and being kind to me I'm going to imagine that those who like me find it endearing. I'm trying to s l o w d o w n, listen and practice awareness. Unfortunately it seems that once my mouth is engaged my awareness switches off. I know I'm not going to get it in a day. I have a life time to work at not Zizzer-Zoofing. I am looking forward to "laying down my load" and becoming a calmer and more thoughtful communicator. thanks for reading Fee x |
