I can not decline to recommend the ones that I discovered.
Here is one from my small selection for the seekers: (Hope to be helpful)

Thank-you, you know I'm going to have to buy these books now
Would you mind telling us why you choose these books as the pearls?

The link in Kaarine's post didn't work for me. However 'Handbook for Mankind' (well worth a read) can also be read online here:

Yeah! ...one of my favored....that I call "pearls"!
Short...compact...easy to read...easy to understand and useful as "quick reverence" for students. There is a second one ... Zen-The-Art-of-Leadership" both are more like little "booklet's" rather than books.

Besides that: (and I am sure a many of you know this) During the time when Shunryu Suzuki introduced Zen and zazen practice in the USA he was meeting with Choegyam Trungpa Rinpoche and both helped each other to establish and strengthen their Sangha.

Two schools of Buddhism from two great historical lines ... they came together from different cultural backgrounds co-incidentally...what a great event. What a great gift to the West! This has amazed me very much. For me this is the living Dharma at work!

Easy If one want to find pearls....he must dive deep! Once he discovers them , he can tell friends where to find them. Sharing is a great blessing...feels good!

I found it a very useful book, I was struggling with a book by Bhante Gunaratana, so I swithced to Zen Mind, Beginners Mind and it was like a light came on, I immeditately "understood" many of the "cryptic" statements, my mind went very calm and still for hours afterward, it made me wonder if I should study Zen.

I'd also like to reccommend Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana (not the one I was struggling with) its a good guide to sitting meditation for beginners.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mindfulness-...2541209&sr=1-1

Edit: It was more the style of the book, rather than the content I was struggling with.

Hi Karma,

I've moved the Zen Mind Beginners Mind video you posted in this book list to the Mahayana/Vayrayana forum and then people can discuss it if they want to.

Hi Lonely_Traveller

- I'm so sorry, I deleted your post by mistake when trying to move Karma's post to a new thread.

kind wishes,
