I meditate looking at a white sheet attached to my book cabinet. No statues, no idols. No problem. The important thing is the result of the quality of the stillness of mind and the development of a tranquil and insightful mind. A smooth breathing is very important.

You can meditate to a dog turd if you wish, as long as you are mindful

Hmmm...where did I read this before ...in what context....lemmethink....

Got it ! Drukpa Kunley! (criticizing corrupt Lama's who collected wealth for their own benefit and ego.)
" One can wrap up a dog turd with fancy brocade and worship it for some time...it looks cute and very precious for quite a while...however...do not come close... you will notice that it stinks!" (This is of course a free quote out of my memory only. The Tibetan sage Drukpa Kunley had far more elegant words ....

The Buddha is in our mind, not in statue.

Someone may see the Buddha's status and feel nothing.
Someone may see nothing, but feel about the Buddha.
The latter one is more useful.

With a bit of thought and practice meditation can be done anywhere anytime.

Walking to the shops, on a bus or train, on the edge of your bed waking in the morning or last thing at night and not a Buddha image in sight.

Go for it.

Peace

So true. I commute a long distance each day so its hard to find time to meditate at home so I meditate on the train in to work.

Hi Torrente
I sort of meditate, in my own way, as I go along. Sometimes I look at clouds, trees etc and try and get a bit lost in nature....
