Hey,
Well I was reading up on Insight Meditation yesterday and there was an exercise where I should try to focus on the rising and falling of my tummy and recognising things as they occur. Such as thinking, reflecting, forgetting, doubting, itching, pain, thirsty, intending, standing, sitting, touching, lifting, pressing, chewing, swallowing, etc. Whilst always trying to focus on the rising and falling of my stomach. It seemed to suggest that I should try to do this all day long... I've been trying... but I have kids and sometimes I can be doing so many things at once that I don't have the time to make a mental note of everything I am doing and then a couple of hours later I'll remember that I should have been focusing on the rising and falling of my tummy or at least making a mental note of everything I am doing physical mentally and emotionally. Is it possible to do this though with a one year old and three year old demanding your attention all day long??? Just wondering if anyone has any advice or whether I read into this exercise wrong? |

I've been doing this Wolfhazel, it really teahces you catch physical and sensory impressions, but that then enables you to catch mental and emotional impressions, personally, I did it for a few hours and it enabled to catch mental impressions, I e-mailed Bihikkhu Yuttadhammo (an advocate of this technique) on Elements advice and he just told me to focus on whichever sensory impression came in the strongest, then fall back to the rising and falling of the stomach when nothing else was going on.
I don't do it all the time though. It was an interesting using the practice while my GF was watching TV to notice how TV shows cycle you through desire and aversion. If you got the technique from Bhikkhu Yuttadhammo's videos have a look at his leaflet or web page here, it explains things a little deeper. http://yuttadhammo.sirimangalo.org/a...w-to-meditate/ You can also contact Bhikkhu Yuttadhammo via his website. http://yuttadhammo.sirimangalo.org/ |
