Hello everyone,
I have been meditating alone for quite awhile. I also have been studying all kinds of Buddhist teachings by myself. This has been very useful to me but I am now coming up against all kinds of barriers in my practice. It is like I am always in the way of any higher understanding. I have always been very awkward socially. Fears and anxiety have guided me most of my life. Even though that I have seen through that kind of deluded thinking I still latch onto those old beliefs cause I do not now what else to do. Very confused and do not now what to go in my practice. I think it is time for me to find some kind of teacher. I do not now how to go about that. Anyhow any advice would be welcome. |

Hi friedenbaum, its good to hear from you again! I'm moving this topic from the welcome section to the Buddhism for Beginners forum.
If you want to find an offline teacher for one-to-one instruction then I think its a good idea to carefully investigate any offline Buddhist groups/meditation classes in your area first. with kind wishes, Aloka-D |

There's an old adage in Asia that a student looking for a teacher should observe the prospective teacher for 10 years (or something like that) before choosing. Of course, it's an exaggeration, but it makes a point. Observe for a long time before choosing, and even after choosing, keep observing. Being a disciple or student does not entail being a blind follower. Good luck!
