Thanks for posting that Element, I liked the emphasis on living a simple life and about being kind and putting people first.

The bit about the toilet and plumber was good ...and I found the part about the woman who fell asleep in the talk very touching.

I only had time to listen up to 43.30 so I'll have to listen to the last part another time.

A beautiful speech Element!

Thanks for finding it.

I keep this moments:

10'47'': He talks about the importance of simplicity. A simple way of living. To keep it simple; as simple as possible.

13'34'': Under the same line of reasoning... Emptiness leads to freedom where simplicity is a reminder of this. We do not need so many things to live a simple life.

Then came this, full of significance:

21'30'': He is commenting about a woman that was abused and felt peace and serenity in the monastery and that's the real significance of a monastery... a place for peace and security.

Now I know why I liked so much that austere and simple stone build Franciscan Temple i visited in my last vacations. I know that feeling.

25'55'': When telling a story about a thief stealing the money in a monastery: "Why should I call the police, responded the monk. If you need that money, take it, it is charity. Kind people give it to us... why can't we give it to you?

54'00'': He speaks about prison systems and the wrong idea of "punishment". This touch me deeply too, because my recent experience when working with female inmates that learnt meditation and felt always a sort of confidence with the Roshi that help us to bring zazen there.

I for one LOVE Ajahn Brahm. I'm a subscriber to the YouTube channel he's on, and I listen to his talks when I go to sleep Anyway, this was an excellent talk...I fear I may have developed an attachment to his talks, however. lol

Agree, it is a very lovely talk.
Finally have listened to it.
He touches on some pertinent points of dealing with our human nature as others have identified - the benefits from simplicity, freedom from the bindings of religion and imposition of beliefs on us as individuals, the importance of the contents of the message rather than the container, kindness and love for people before the things, structures and teachings of the religion and valuing meditation before the cleaning !
Generosity, acceptance, gratitude, respecting and considering others ideas and views, meeting each others needs. Rather than forcing your own ideas seeing compromise and the choice to just let it go - giving it time and considering carefully rather than pushing for a way forward or resolution now. It works ... if we work it.
