Default New Call Center
I have been poking around the board and absorbing all I can lately! I am looking to set up a 20 seat call center.

I would like some pointers about picking a location for the office, internet service and blackout issues in particular areas. I think I read that some areas are better then others.

Thanks in Advance

Location: for only 20 seats even a house will do. In fact, I would recommend it because you will have restrooms, etc. that are not dependent on a shopping center's flakey infrastructure. Try to get a location where your employees can get to and from easily. (fairly central)

Internet service: if you took the above advice about a central location then this should not be a problem, but confirm with the ISP you will be using before you sign a lease. Verizon's metro fiber is probably the best for voice over IP right now.

Blackouts: Will be problem wherever you are. If not now then later. You need inverters and a generator. Get 2 Xantrex 3.6KW inverters and use one for half your computers, one for the other half. Leave everything else on the regular circuit and run that with the generator. Get 8 batteries for each inverter and only use them to give you time to turn on the generator. 8 Batteries is mega overkill for just turning on a generator but you need it for occasions where you will have to refuel, change oil or whatever during a blackout.

Thats about as much free consulting as I care to do on vacation.

OH wait! - Dont tell the ISP you will be doing voip, in fact, if you can help it don't tell them you are doing anything except living in the house. If you MUST let them know you are a business then tell them you are doing web design or something like that. That goes for the landlord as well. It's none of their business and they will want to charge you more, or decline to provide the service all together in both cases. (sorry landlords)
