After completing the Curriculum for Living, I got really clear on the ability of my mind to make up disempowering stories about the world. And that's how I started relating to my mind - as a racket-making machine. I started to distrust anything my mind came up with, to instinctively disappear whatever ideas and theories my mind created about the world.
And suddenly, I realized I was making up a disempowering story about my mind. Or, more accurately, my mind was making up a disempowering story about my mind. It was the ultimate, recursive racket. So, I disappeared it, and invented something new. It is possible to have the story that our minds are remarkable, extraordinary tools that give us power in the world. Which not only is way more fun than relating to them as a racket-making machine, it opens up way more possibility. |
