There were 32 penalties given out in the Nationwide race and now several more given out today. The better part of these penalties are for too fast entering pit lane. The reason specified is the line they start clocking you is so far out, it's hard to get the car slowed down enough getting onto pit lane. Guys who aren't in traffic have an easier time as they don't have to worry too much about getting run over if they start to coast in turn four. The guys in traffic don't have that luxury and have to jump on the brakes big time unless they want to get run over.
NASCAR will have to address that for the next Vegas race. When it seems everyone is getting a penalty for the same thing, there needs to be some sort of revision to the rules in some manner. |

Gordon blew a tire and dramatically altered the course of the race because of this terribly designed entrance. Something has to be done. The cut off line at Las Vegas is just too far out from pit lane and should be maybe 50 ft. or so closer to the entrance. It's kind of like when a the civil engineer who designs a highway is too stupid to integrate a proper sized exit ramp or there's simply not enough room for a proper sized exit ramp. The result is everyone slamming on their brakes on the highway instead of on the exit ramp where it should happen. There's simply not enough room to decelerate safely so braking must begin in the lane of travel compromising the safety of others in the process. |
