Default Does anybody know...
why the field size in NASCAR is 43 cars in the Cup and Nationwide Series?

I've never really put much thought into it, but it recently it's been a lingering question in the back of my mind.

If I were to venture any sort of guess, I'd think it would have something to do loosely with Richard Petty and his car number. I'm sure it really has little to do with it if at all, but I'm curious none-the-less.

If anyone has any knowledge in this matter, I'd love to hear it.
