Default 2010 New Teams World Championship
I thought it would be fun to keep tabs on how the new teams would fare if they had their own little championship. For ease, I decided to just assign points according to the longstanding old system of 9-6-4-3-2-1, and to classify cars even if they don't finish the race. Perhaps there could be extra points for "pole" and "fastest lap", but ultimately those are gimmicks. So far, Kovalainen is on track to be World Champion!

Good work, will be interesting to see how this progresses over the season. One small correction - I think Lotus should have 15+10=25 in the constructors, not 36.

Very arbitrary, isn't it? Not only have cars never been classified if they don't cover a certain percentage of the race-winner's distance, but 9-for-a-win was abandoned twenty years ago, and for practically all that time (including 1990, the final 9-6-4-3-2-1 season), only a driver's best X results counted. It wasn't until they went to 10-for-a-win that it became standard to count all results.

It's looking good so far, if only Virgin could actually get their cars to the finish.

Very arbitrary, isn't it?
As much as any other points system.

Nice idea

I like classifying all the cars, because at this point, for the new teams at least, how far they go into the race is as significant as their finishing positions.

Excellent idea - bit like the Jim Clark trophy back in 1987/88.

Senna completed more laps than both Virgins in Bahrain... He retired one lap later than Glock, and far later than Di Grassi (Lap 3)...

Then, this is the classification:
Code:
Code

You guys feel free to run your own parallel count with any points system you wanna use. I think it would be interesting to see if it makes any difference in the end. I am by no means married to the 9-6-4-3-2-1

There is not much to compare against Lotus, they are going to be in their own class. Main question is about HRT v Virgin, but Virgin needs to find the ability to finish races if they want to end up ahead there.

Awarding points based on how late anyone retires, reminds me the system from the 30's, when drivers received different amount of points depending on whether they covered over 75, 50 or 25% of the race.

I like the concept. Some series have "Rookie of the Year," with three new teams, it's like a "Rookie Team of the Year."

Didn't the winner get 1 point then more points depending on distance managed. I think you were even awarded points for not showing up (there's hope for USF1 yet ). So the champ was the driver with the fewest points.

What would you guys think of this points system:

- only cars who are classified in the race can score.
- if all 6 are classified, the points are 6-4-3-2-1-0
- if 5 classified, 5-3-2-1-0
- if 4 classified, 4-2-1-0
- if 3 classified, 3-1-0
- if 2 classified, 2-0 (same 2 points for the only finisher)

- 1 point for best qualifying position ("pole")
- 1 point for fastest race lap

Better? Worse? Probably the outcome would be the same anyways?

DiGrassi scores a surprise win for Virgin, and with Lotus' so far worst round, the championship race has tightened up a bit again!

Again, please feel free to use any alternate points system to keep track on your own, and post it here, I'd love to see the outcomes in each system!
