Default BBC To Use Fleetwood Macs 'The Chain'
I have just read on a photography forum of all places that the BBC propose to use 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac. Has anyone else heard this? I hope this is true, but it won't be the same without Murray's voice at the end of it...

I've heard unofficially that it will be the "proper" version, not some dodgy remix - anybody who's heard the hash job that is the current BBC snooker theme will be relieved.

Yeah I hope it the original as I too am not usually a fan of remixes, although the 'Top Gear' theme is not a bad example I suppose...

Yeah, it always set the scene nicely for the race when the first voice you heard was Murray talking really softly "Hello and welcome to a sunny Barcelona...". Contrary to popular belief Murray Walker didn't always shout at the top of his voice all the time.

Do we know if the punditry is to be done from a studio in London or at the track?

I remember it being said somewhere that the presenting with Coulthard and the other guy is at the BBC studios, whereas Legard and Brundle will be at the track.

I think the reaction by a lot of you shows how important theme music can be for a sport telecast.

The British folk in this forum have shown such affection for 'the chain' but the same can be said for a lot of sports. Theme music have so much appeal, that most sport telecasts theme music can be found on youtube.

I guess the best way to sum up a similar affection in Australia would be the Nine Network's theme music they use for their Cricket coverage. Same music for decades, the moment you hear it, you think cricket. Same can be said with the British population and 'The Chain'....

Cricket is the same in the UK. Certainly the BBC theme for test cricket. Although I'm not sure they get the chance to use it any more. Similarly the Snooker music is quite distinctive. Not to mention 'Ski Sunday'.

Yeah us Brits do seem to be keen on theme music, and I remember watching F1 as a child with my dad, and remember distinctly 'The Chain' pumping out to get you in the mood for an afternoons racing. I must admit though I think I am also going to miss 'Lift me Up' by moby which was used by ITV... There again I think all will be forgotton come March 27th.. Bring it on..

It's a very good interview with Martin. Good to hear some things from him outside of the Grand Prix weekends.

Please no. I was just listening to Five Live and they ran an ad for BBC's F1 coverage. The bed track was the chain but all pimped up and lame ass. I really hope thats not the end product. Stick with the original people!

Andrew Benson (BBC) has confirmed that the theme music will be the original. There's a remix which may be used for background music under results graphics etc, but the proper version will open the programme - and quite right too.

I heard it too, but it wasn't so very bad. But if it isn't going to be used prominently then it really doesn't bother me too much. The original has such an aura about it.

good to hear - grew up listening to The Chain every other weekend and great to have it back.

although i have to agree, ITV's Moby theme was a good one too (and maybe a bit more with the times, as they say?)

Too right indeed. That would almost be as bad as Rolf Harris doing a cover of Songbird......

Personally , I was hoping for "God save the Queen" , or "Anarchy in the Uk" by the Pistols .

Really , what the hell does it matter , once the engines roar ?
That's the music I want to hear .
