Default 2014 Corvette Stingray Cranks Out 460 Horsepower
DETROIT – The 2014 Corvette Stingray’s all-new LT1 6.2L V-8 engine is SAE-certified at 460 horsepower (343 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 465 lb-ft of torque (630 Nm) at 4,600 rpm, with the available performance exhaust system, Chevrolet announced today.

The Stingray is SAE-certified at 455 horsepower (339 kW) and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) with the standard exhaust system. They are the highest standard power ratings ever for the Corvette, delivered with efficiency that is expected to exceed 26 mpg on the highway.

The performance available in cars these days is staggering. I'm in my early 30's and remember when anything that could do 0-60 around 5 seconds was a beast. When the F40 and Diablo were top dogs at 478hp and 492hp I remember being amazed. Now the least horsepower you can get from the Corvette is 460hp. Clearly the F40 is a whole different beast, but the gains in the "everyday" cars is stunning. I'd be perfectly happy getting a C5 Z06, but the Corvette continues to elevate it's bang for the buck.

It's a good time to love cars, that's for sure. I remember when there were only 5 production vehicles that could crack a sub-5-second 0-60 as a kid. 4 cars and the GMC Syclone.

HOLY SHIT! This 6.2 LT1 now makes just 5 ft/lb of torque less than the 7.0L LS7 from the C6 Z06. Who knows what the Z06 and ZR1 engines will be making. Good Lord... Pushrod FTW.

And with better fuel economy than their DOHC counter parts.
