Default The Kate Borkowski Topic
Martian's news page lists Seth Lakeman as recording there in 2007. That's the last and only recording artist mentioned, apart from Tori and even her info isn't up to date anymore on there. That would indicate to me it's not doing so well, business-wise. It could be the location, so far off the beaten track (Cornwall is a pig to get to in UK terms), or it could be overpriced or something, but it doesn't look like they get much in the way of high-profile business. I wonder how much debt they ploughed themselves into to build all the extra facilities? It's certainly quite a flash set-up there.
This is from an e-mail alert I received today:

Seattle, WA (WiredPRNews.com) After reaching out to Tori Amos’ mixing engineer Marcel van Limbeek in London, Seattle singer/songwriter, Kate Borkowski, found herself literally staying at Tori Amos’ residence and recording additional vocals and piano (on Tori’s Bosendorfer) at Martian Engineering in Cornwall, England.

Kate masterly wrote all of the tracks on her debut album ‘Beautiful Little Fools’ and dedicates one of the tracks to Tori. ‘Siamroot’, an anagram of Tori Amos’ name, investigates the cyclical nature of a volatile relationship, and represents an almost Absinthian retreat from life into the landscape of Tori’s songs.

With her trademark coiled wild hair and unique, almost eerie vocal style, Kate has created what appears to be a brand new music genre and is generating strong interest within the music industry, both in the USA and internationally.

‘Beautiful Little Fools’ was recorded and engineered at Garey Shelton Productions in Seattle, WA and additional recording and mixing was done by Marcel van Limbeek, between London, UK and Martian Engineering (Cornwall, UK). The album was mastered with care by the legendary Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound in New York and includes an impressive list of well-known musicians such as Ben Smith (Heart); Keith Lowe (Fiona Apple); Mac Aladdin (Tori Amos); John Philip Shenale (Tori Amos); Rosemary Banks (Tori Amos); Garey Shelton (Tingstad and Rumbel) and John Morton.

Also I was CONVINCED this was fake. But I looked and it's real. "Kate masterly wrote..." "Siamroot"??!! WTF. Seriously some of our press releases are better than this.

Investigates the cyclical nature of a volatile relationship? Sounds a little similar to someone else's recent press release...

With her trademark coiled wild hair and unique, almost eerie vocal style, Kate has created what appears to be a brand new music genre and is generating strong interest within the music industry, both in the USA and internationally.
A brand new music genre? If emulating Helicopter Girl = new genre, then, sure.

What musician worth their salt would let Mac Aladdin play on their album? That's like making a delicious gorgonzola cheese dip and throwing a handful of Velveeta on it. And what the fuck is wrong with Tori? It's fine if he shits up her albums because they're married and all, right wrong or indifferent, but fuck's sake keep him AWAY from other musicians. Wow. Wow wow wow.

Holy cow, it finally happened. Apparently you can't record there without members of the Tori Amos Band playing on your record!

Also, Siamroot, "an anagram of Tori Amos’ name" and "investigates the cyclical nature of a volatile relationship," is clearly about Tori and Mark.

I make fun, but this album does sound potentially good.

http://www.musicbykate.com/siamroot.html

You can listen to WTF Siamroot here. It actually sounded alright up until, and I'm not kidding, that fucking Cack Aladdin showed up.

Also, the lyrics are either quite good or a total Tori fake-tracklist. Ha - she even quotes fucking Sweet the Sting. It's like those AATS parodies on youtube.

here we go again
but everyone's favorite book has a coffee stain on it somewhere
and I guess that I could have left
but I like my scars
a bit of a mess
and what's ours being ours
and what's ours being ours
and i sip siamroot and i sip siamroot and i sip siamroot
with a good friend of mine
and here we go again
but every girl wakes up an old woman one day
fumbling around her purse of a life and reaching far beyond the lipstick this time
oh she's looking for a little something more raw to paint her face marrow red
with the meaning of it all
but you, you're so stubborn
and you waste all of our time
so i sip siamroot, and sip siamroot and i sip siamroot
with a good friend of mine

She is the balm in this Gilead
and oil drips onto me
real is this infusion
She stirs the honey in my tea
She is the balm in this Gilead
and oil drips onto me
real is this infusion
unbeknownst to Her
She stirs the honey in my tea

To me it sounds like someone, (Marianne Faithfull or Macy Gray like, with a lot of rasp), is covering an unknown Tori song. I'm still processing it. Thank you for sharing.

I just went to you tube. I hadn't seen them yet. Umm.. I can't understand a word they are saying. They sound like they have a severe speech impediment. I wouldn't mind a good laugh... I love parodies, but I can't make out a word they are saying.
