STOP THE WORLD.
Does Beirut sound like that? Really? All these years I never ever ever ever wanted to listen to him/them coz I thought it was a hypster band, like Devendra Banhart or seudo hippie folk like that, which I find incredibly hideous. This song is beautiful. Really, really beautiful. I even like the brass.
Wow, what a surprise. I'm getting rid of one preconception.
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I think a lot of people see them in that way, mostly before they hear their music properly. Sometimes they are a bit iffy with me, but when they get it right it's amazing. Nantes is another amazing song of theirs from the same album. And they use a lot of brass, which I love! I also hate that type of music. Bon Iver is an example of something I thought was shitty, pretentious, hipster music until I listened and was blown away.

As you were.

eh... very MOR acoustic sound which I can't stand.

Too bad we can't comment on older posts.
Sure we can!! I think spoilers would be a good idea though, so as not to clutter up the thread.

Nice song. I didn't expect anything like this at all; I've always read about Jarboe when they're talking about Swans or Diamanda Galás or Meredith Monk... but this is a very cute song, very Kate Bush circa Never For Ever. If the rest of the album has this vibe, I'll listen to it.
Thirteen Masks is one of my favorite albums, it's very eclectic. Get that album - it definitely has a Kate Bush or Danielle Dax kind of vibe which is rare for her, but boy does she pull it off. The rest of her solo albums are nothing like it, unfortunately (although I do love this track from Beautiful People Ltd.)

next song... moving from ex-Swans singer to another bird band:

^ I've never heard of the band, and the song is really interesting. I love the build up.

^ I liked her voice, liked the percussion, like the background voices in the end... I think it gets a little too long coz in the end it kinda misses the point, but it's very interesting. I'll try to find something else of her/them via illegal download =P.

I'm posting a link cause the song is not on YouTube and I still haven't figure out how to embed something from Soundcloud...

Love me some Purity Ring, this type of music is right up my alley.

About the new Cat Power?

I had just watched it on the other thread... I'm not sure yet. It's more entertaining that the snoozefest that "Jukebox" was. But it's too happy, too pop, too not-Cat-Power. The guitar is very Mac Aladdin IMO. I liked her better when she had that DIY sound ("Nude as the news", for instance).
Oh, and the piano doing the same seven notes all the time is freaking me out. Girl, play something else! =P

I posted this in another thread some time ago...
