So, it's clear that there are several subforum-approved artists on here that everyone tends to like, and I think it'd be cool to see how people rank them against each other. Use whatever criteria you like, really.
1. Joanna Newsom (Just the best ever, really. One of my favorite composers, one of my favorite vocalists, and my favorite lyricist by far. Unparalelled.) 2. Tori Amos (Tori's career has been less consistent than Kate's imo - I still think Misty and Lake Tahoe are two of Kate's best songs ever! - but when she's at her peak she's in a tier of her own) 3. Kate Bush 4. Björk (I've gone off her solo work a bit - I don't think there's a full album of hers I really enjoy - but her voice is undeniable) 5. PJ Harvey 6. Lady Gaga 7. Madonna AND favorite albums for each: Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me Tori Amos - Boys for Pele Kate Bush - Aerial Björk - Life's Too Good PJ Harvey - White Chalk Lady Gaga - Born This Way Madonna - n/a |

1. Tori Amos - The reason I come here, mostly. Still a huge fan after 15+ years. I'm one of the few who really like her current output, and I never miss a tour. Actually, is it sad that I still obsess over an artist for that long? I'm 34 for fuck's sake.
2. Kate Bush- Second only to Amos, but sometimes I have to admit to myself that she's actually worlds better. I just don't connect emotionally to her music (in general) as I do Amos. 3. Bjork- Although I LOVE half of Biophilia, I haven't really given a rat's ass about her music since Vespertine. I was once a huge fan though, and still listen to her 90's albums on a regular basis. 4. PJ Harvey- A true artist. I didn't care for much of White Chalk, but LES is undeniably brilliant. Her 90's work, like bjork, is still played often in my house. 5. Joanna Newsom- I don't pine over her like some do. She's entirely hit or miss for me. I LOVE MEM. YS is a chore. HOOM is a beautiful record, though. 6. Gaga and Madonna- I'm not a fan of either and don't own a single one of their records. I was more of a Lauper than Madonna fan back in the day, although her 80's and early 90's classics are always fun to listen to . I just wouldn't voraciously go out and buy them. Gaga I don't really give a fuck about. Records: Tori Amos- Boys for Pele Kate Bush- Hounds of Love Bjork- Post PJ Harvey- Stories Joanna Newsom- Milk Eyed Mender and like I said, I couldn't even name a gaga or madonna record. |

It's a three-way tie of Bjork, Kate and PJH. All three of them still make interesting music. Tori trails behind in 4th place because her current music mostly stinks, and her older stuff is good but played out for me. I give her more chances than most just because she was my all-time favorite artist at one point. I keep waiting for things to turn around, but for now I'm just in it for the LOLs.
Joanna - never could get into her. Madonna - good pop artist, don't really listen to her though. Gaga - trash. ALBUMS Bjork - Medulla Kate - Hounds of Love PJH - To Bring You My Love Tori - Boys for Pele / Choirgirl Hotel (tie) |

Oh, I'll vote when I'll get to know Polly better, because I'm liking her a lot but I've heard one half album so far. Is this desire? sounds great.
I don't like Joanna, I don't know if the point is that I hate her voice, that I can't understand 90% of what she sings and nothing I've heard from her grabbed my attention...I gave up on her. Kate, I've learned to like her, I couldn't really get into her music before, I did through Jig of Life and My Lagan Love. Still, didn't like her latest record and some stuff still sounds too '80s. My favourite song from her, I think, it's The Man with the Child in his Eyes. Madonna...I liked her Ray of Light era a lot, otherwise she didn't do much for me. She has a great sense of music, but her pop is a bit too..uhm POP for my taste. But she's good. I like Gaga better than Madonna because to me she seems to expreiment a lot, she's interesting both musically and visually, a great entertainer. Still, again, not the music that lasts long on my player. I didn't like The Fame, I think The Fame Monster was much better, Born This Way is also interesting. Bjork...I think she's awesome, but I have some issue with her voice (which is great, but the way she sings sometimes tires me). Loved Army of Me and Bachelorette. I've tried to listen to Medulla and Biophilia but I couldn't get into them. Tori. I'm a fangirl. FTCH is my most beloved thing, my favourite record ever. Also, the only reason why I'm here all the time. |
