the past few years i have been growing distant towards tori's music, but as of late i have been listening a piano and getting back into the groove of it - it's been a great experience!

The Extended Little Earthquakes makes this set a must buy.
At the time it really got me listening to those early songs again. I think it honors LE well, considering it never got a rerelease to mark its 10th or 15th anniversary.

Also great to see the unreleased songs get some love, and demos which I never thought Tori would let anyone hear in a million years.

I'm sure it's buried somewhere in my mess of a closet, but that doesn't make me feel all that much better. I wouldn't be surprised if I damaged it. Ugh.

I don't think there will be much need for this set if and/or when they reissue all the albums. IMO the missed opportunity was not doing a complete b-sides set. I'm afraid stuff like Alamo and Ode to the Banana King might never get re-released. Not to mention Siren and Butterfly - what's the deal there? Unless the contract says "do not re-release these songs EVEERRRR!!!" I don't see what the problem is.

Yeah you can already get everything from 1992 to 1999 for under $8. SLG, Scarlet and TBK are in the $8-12 range. So if you get the best deals or buy used CD's:

LE: $4
UTP: $4
BFP: $7
FTC: $8
TVAB $12
SLG: $12
SW: $9
TBK: $13

That's about $70 and you'll have everything from A Piano and more, just not the B-sides.

So it would have made more sense to just amass all the B-sides together.

the other main problem is whether or not she has the original mixes that appeared on the singles. The version of Take to the Sky we got on A Piano was an alternate mix but was not labeled as such on the tracklisting.

the other thing is how Fade To Red had all the TOAL mixes on it...at first I thought it was her being all crazy and liking those versions better but now I think she doesn't have the original tapes or that they are damaged.

but then I think she's talked out of her ass when I see tracks like Girl and Honey being simply remastered with no harm done(considering all LE were there easily on disc A with her just choosing the Crucify remix instead of the album version). and I wonder if these alternate mixes (which were respective to their era) were used so she could make the set seem like it had more unreleased material on it...(but then why not use the b-sides?) Could a full b-sides set be called A Piano? I think the 2006 deal with Rhino was for just Video collection and just a generic anthology compilation (which is why didn't get a B-Sides set weren't no matter what.)

I do love this set a lot actually and to me it's her best release since scarlet up to this day for me anyway.

Speaking of that Rhino deal, where's the next release?! It's time.

...but they're not remastered, which is a big attraction for A Piano. I'm saying they should've done what Siouxsie & the Banshees and Nick Cave did - a complete b-sides set, followed by reissues of the original albums. Tori could still do that, but then A Piano would become obsolete except for maybe a handful of tracks (alternate mixes & such).

Is A Piano even in print anymore, though? There's still collector's value, hypothetically.

I thought that A Piano was the last thing Rhino was to be involved with?
Did we ever get details on the length and terms of the Rhino deal ?

US version: no...
UK/Euro version: only the cutdown version...not the UK piano key one since they were also manufactured in the US (I read that they were made in the US at eil .com)

all of Rhino's Depeche Mode goodness is out of print too and I am pissed I waited too long to grab the remastered albums and singles boxes since now they are only available digitally (I fucking hate the digital age sometimes) but I assume it's the poor economy causing this.

I also noticed they worked with them, Tori, and Bjork within the same time period. I wish some Madonna stuff would materialize...

I didn't even know there was a cutdown version. Did it just come with the CD digipaks or what?

I just realised that I really don't like the Piano version of Cruel, the cleaned up version is soulless IMHO

I agree. The original is perfection. Just leave it alone.

I don't mind the remixed version of Cruel. It's inferior to the original, but it highlights some interesting things that were buried in the original's mixing.

I agree... and listening to it lets understand on what the live version was built... in a way the A piano version is more similar to it.
