Any time you get an opportunity to put something out, I’m in the mind that you seize the project with both hands. And I’m not one to give the record company my blessing and do what [they] think is best. I don’t think that anybody knows what’s best except the composer or the midwives of the songs themselves. I had access to all the material since 1990, and my goal was to try and retain the integrity of everything. When you’re putting together a work of this magnitude, [the songs] all have to work together. I wanted to have some kind of story—a payoff denouement for each record. ____ |

I love it. But that being said, I have lots of criticism for it.
88 keys on a piano. 88 songs on the collection would have been a nice touch. So close. Stop. Stop already with the Prof Widow remix. I love how LE sounds. I was so happy to hear the new material. Take me with you is so freaking awesome. I like hearing demos. That little bit of playboy Mommy was beautiful. I wish she wouldn't be so afraid of demos not being finished enough. Can we say for sure now that Melusine that she referred to as writing is Dolphin Song? The omissions for this set make me crazy. Garlands. Peter Pan. MOUNTAIN. All the soundtrack songs. I don't think we needed live versions of songs that we already had. If tales is considered a collection, then why is the collection then on another collection (mary, snow cherries)? At least give us a Tales version that didn't make the album (wasn't Putting the Damage on a free download, but didn't make the disk?) It would be nice if they kept making additions to it. Like release another disk now with ADP, AATS, and MWG stuff. |

Beautiful packaging, an informative booklet, great remasters, and some very nice unreleased tracks and demos. Pretty much everything I'd want in a box set. I do wish they had just put all of UTP on here so it would all be remastered. All of the tracks gained so much from it, I'd love to hear a remastered Icicle, Space Dog, and Wrong Band. It also would've been nice to get just a few of Tori's covers on here, they're a big part of her career and songs like Teen Spirit, New Age, Famous Blue Raincoat, etc. are some of her best work. |

I think most of the soundtrack songs had to be left out for legal or licensing reasons unfortunately. Garlands, OPP, Mountain etc. were also probably left off because Rhino only had rights to Tori's Atlantic catalog and had to pay to use the Epic era songs, so we only got a few on this collection. Now why Amber Waves and Marys made it on instead of those tracks, you'd have to ask Tori. ![]() |

I love it except for the lack of a few rarities that I really would have liked to seen (Mountain, Studio Purple People!).
I think it would have been even better if some of the material (like maybe the Little Earthquakes disc) was re-recorded and remixed (as they did for Sweet Dreams and Mary on Tales). |

The Extended Little Earthquakes makes this set a must buy.
At the time it really got me listening to those early songs again. I think it honors LE well, considering it never got a rerelease to mark its 10th or 15th anniversary. Also great to see the unreleased songs get some love, and demos which I never thought Tori would let anyone hear in a million years. |

I don't think there will be much need for this set if and/or when they reissue all the albums. IMO the missed opportunity was not doing a complete b-sides set. I'm afraid stuff like Alamo and Ode to the Banana King might never get re-released.

Yeah you can already get everything from 1992 to 1999 for under $8. SLG, Scarlet and TBK are in the $8-12 range. So if you get the best deals or buy used CD's:
LE: $4 UTP: $4 BFP: $7 FTC: $8 TVAB $12 SLG: $12 SW: $9 TBK: $13 That's about $70 and you'll have everything from A Piano and more, just not the B-sides. So it would have made more sense to just amass all the B-sides together. |
