About five minutes ago everything started swaying for about 30 seconds or so. I got everyone out of the house.

Waiting for the after shock... keep you posted

We just felt an earthquake here in Cabarete. Tables etc shook for about 4 seconds
Anyone know where epicenter was? Out in the Ocean, or on land. If in the ocean should we be worried???

A strong tremor was felt in the Cibao about 10 minutes ago.
I saw people from all over outside. Clinics, schools and apartments...

A major 6+ to be sure!!

Hope others realize that dv8 is not joking. I felt the onset of motion sickness, too, and I thought I had sea legs.
I was long, not too big but it was like being on my boat. Drapes moving and that feeling of being at sea.

From a guy that lived in CA for many years... this was a little different.

looks like the whole island is shaking.... slight tremor.. enough to send the chandeliers swaying
I am also in Santo Domingo resting in the hotel bed using my laptop. I felt and saw the bed shake a bit for a few seconds, thought I was really crazy and ignored it. Guess it was the quake...........LOL

I just felt what I think was an earthquake in Cabarete at 5:55.

I would guess the magnitude at 4 . Some ground movement back and forth.

Anyone else feel it?

5:55 PM

Watching TV, my chair started rocking side-to-side, lasted quite awhile, perhaps 20-30 seconds.

It was a magnitude 7.3:

Magnitude 7.0 - HAITI REGION

Pretty amazing they can get the info out so quick.

Update, they just dropped it from 7.3 to 7.0

It seems mobile phone communication went down briefly shortly afterward, but seems to be mostly restored now.
